ummmmmmm OF COURSE there will be black on the sides. it's going to have black bars on the side. that's how a 4x3 image shown in a 16x9 frame is rendered (blu-ray isn't anamorphic since there is no need thus all the image to the left and right is just "black").... and as said before BLACK in those areas is MUCH easier to compress than having lots of moving images and colors.

The show will be presented in full-frame, 1.33.1 ratio. That means that, by it's very nature, it will require only 75% of the bitrate required for an equivalent-in-length 16.9 presentation, as the sides of the screen will be nothing but black bars. So you're looking at roughly the equivalent of four hours of 16.9 footage on a single disc--presumably a BD-50. Now, this begs the question: can a two-hour film in a 16.9 AR look not just good but exceptional on a BD-25? Why yes, it can. See Sorcerer for a recent example. This means that four hours of footage on a BD-50 could look exceptional as well.

Is that "common sense" enough for you?

However, even with 5 episodes - it still will look great and I'm happy this is getting released at all. Plenty of series have 4 or 5 hour long episodes on them per disc along with other bonus features.

Since this will be in 4:3 it isn't going to be apples to apples compression wise to a 16:9 1080p 5 hour disc. There's going to be a nice chunk of black vertical barred real estate which will offset it a bit. Not sure how much but it'll be enough to help. Godfather 2 clocks in at 3 hours 20 minutes and is fullscreen 1.78:1 and looks GORGEOUS - in fact I consider the boat house scenes as the definitive test as to how well your blacks appear if you can see the difference in Michael's black hair and the line between the black silk and linen on his vest, but I digress.

The picture is going to be fine, so stop with the senseless hating. By doing so you're showing you kind of don't know what you're talking about.

Also those cards look like they might be the 1960s Batman cards, but I think there were more than 44 of them and I cant tell from the artwork if it's a match cuz of their angle and size. Anyone know?

No Batgirl pilot is odd, perhaps as an easter egg I hope.

pathetic examples, to use max bit-rats so that the picture can look the best it can on blu-ray. you should only have 3 hours per dual layer disc.....
