You apparently missed the stint with the Wizards.

Obviously not the way I thought it would go, but have to give the Celtics credit for their defense that took Gasol and Odom so much out of their games. Kobe can't do it all alone... and neither could Jordan until he had the proper cast built up around him (see the Jordan Wizards or the Bulls from the mid 80s through 1990).

As good as the Celtics change from the previous year was, the Lakers year was almost as good, except they only got one good trade to net the difference. Hopefully they can make some moves in the offseason. A good power forward or backup center to Bynum is what's needed most, as both Odom and Gasol are softer shooting types.

yeah, after all basketball is a team sport but Jordan was a force and was a leader, if his team was in trouble how many times he brought them up? Where was this proper cast when Jordan left for two years in mid 90's? He's the best guy who played this sport for a reason.

Wizards Jordan took the team to the play-offs, didn't he? Besides, my 5 bucks are going with NBA bagged him to come back because rankings tanked right after he retired.

Sorry, the Jordan-led Wiz missed the playoffs in both 2002 and 2003. In both of those seasons, they were barely hanging onto either the #7 or #8 spot even after the all-star weekend. Then things only got worse for them after their annual west coast trip in March in both of those years.

ok I stand corrected. I didn't follow Wizards with Jordan, I think it was a mistake for him to come back anyway.

Sure. Jordan won many games for the Bulls (excepting the '95 "i'm back" season) that they otherwise wouldn't have won. Just like Kobe, which is the impetus for these comparisons. I definitely think that Kobe is the best player in the league right now.... but most likely not to the level of the 96-97'ish Jordan (or even the 1992'ish vintage). Yet. Kobe's potential, I think, is higher than both in an dominance perspective.

Most definitely.

On an aside, I'm not entirely sure that the first retirement was voluntary (I'm thinking some soft of clandestine on the DL suspension wrt the gambling myself), but that's neither here nor there.

Kobe isn't higher in any category over Jordan.

And don't even mention his attempt as an NBA executive either.
