[Show spoiler]When Thanos gets the IG he snaps his fingers and wipes out half of humanity/galaxy, that's when he should be saying bathe the galaxy in blood or whatever after he's gotten the infinity guantlet, and killed some people for Death don't YOU THINK?

Thanos was a poker player before he got his hands on the IG, that's how he GOT the gems by being SMART. Poker face manipulative mentality. These guys didn't even read the shit. Thanos character without Death is stupid imo.
What are you saying....

First, you're assuming Thanos needs the gauntlet to be powerful? Do you realise he's one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel universe even without the gauntlet. He can take on Ronan easily without a single gem.

Secondly, Marvel Studios is making these movies for a wide variety of audiences. His presence in GotG was to show the viewer, who probably even know who Thanos is, how menacing he really is sans the gauntlet. Going back to the first point, no one but comic book readers even know there is a gauntlet, just the gems.

Also, you're taking what he said too literally...By bathe the starwaves in Ronan's blood, he semi-figurtively meant to destroy him so hard the blood will be splattered across the galaxy.

Watching Guardians again last week, knowing now the reception it's gotten from the fans and public, I just thought about how incredible and huge it will be in 2018 when they and The Avengers meet in 2018. Almost makes me want to skip Ulton...

I guarantee you they will botch this. They have no talent with Villains. Bath skyways in blood? Where's the blood bra? You have no infinity gauntlet yet....oh man these writers suck.

Non-existant like all their villians, they're all a joke in the marvel cinematic universe. At least they have heros like RDJr.
Strongly Disagree, Loki played his part as Villain in both Thor and Avengers VERY well in my opinion.

Winter Solider is another, but like Loki, you felt a bit of compassion for him so couldn't quite 'love to hate' either.

Now, Ronan, despite his limited screen time....

I think Loki is super lame, honestly. At least he was in The Avengers. I haven't seen the Thor movies. I also thought all the Iron Man villains were lame.

I thought Red Skull was good in Captain America though.

You know who was an awesome villain in a super hero movie---Hackman as Lex Luthor.

fully fleshed out, menacing, riveting, powerful, iconic etc.

Iron Man has arguably the lamest rogues gallery of any superhero.

I thought the villains were all OK in these movies, though.

Reading through this discussion the last page or two and was quite glad that Walt brought up Tim Roth's terrific turn as Blonsky/Abomination. He (and that movie) get so overlooked in the MCU

As for the overall quality of Marvel's villains...they are all over the place for me. The fantastic (Loki, Abomination), the strong (Ronan, Winter Soldier, Pearce), the terrible (Killian), the mediocre (Obadiah, Rourke) and the passable (Malekith, Red Skull).

I will say, though, that even some of the villains that are weaker in my opinion were at least portrayed by actors that turned in a good performance (Jeff Bridges did his best with what he had and Ben Kingsley was amazing in his role even if I hated the twist)

It seems people are pretty split on the Marvel villains. I still think that Loki is most likely considered the best and most fleshed-out Marvel villain so far.

It would be nice if Thanos got developed in these movies because he's not only the most bad-ass in the Marvel universe but he can be likable and he's not typically evil. Just like Loki, he's a complex character - very grey. Im afraid that these movies will just give him little scenes lacking development until his character will be rushed through in the finale.

Realistically, what Marvel movies are Thanos appearing in again besides the final Avengers film?

Guardians 2 most likely, and maybe Thor 3, maybe?

Your Favorite Avengers May Not Be In AVENGERS 3

Once Avengers: Age of Ultron hits, the Marvel Cinematic Universe goes into Phase Three... and possibly the beginning of the end. The studio's biggest actors are under limited contracts, and those contracts will begin to expire in Phase Three. Chris Evans, for instance, has just two more movies left on his contract, and Captain America 3 will eat one of those up. Robert Downy Jr has one more film, and Chris Hemsworth is also entering the home stretch. Renegotiations can happen, but they would be costly and go against Marvel's general spirit of keeping things cheap.

Guardians of the Galaxy is the solution for Marvel; they've proven the brand is big enough that they can keep introducing new characters to take the places of older ones, and Phase Three will see Doctor Strange, Ant-Man and maybe Ms. Marvel trying to step in for the older franchises. But how does Marvel make the most of this changeover? Will all of the current Marvel franchises come to a basic end after Avengers 3?

Not exactly. Last week a rumor hit that Marvel was going to split Avengers 3 into two movies, and this would be how they would get around the ending of actors' contracts. I explained why that isn't possible, from a basic legal standpoint, but while doing some digging on this rumor I discovered it was closer to truth than I ever imagined. Marvel isn't spltting Avengers 3 into two movies, but they are planning Avengers 3 as the springboard to... something else. And they're going to use their biggest characters in that something else, keeping them out of Avengers 3.

Imagine an Avengers 3 without Thor or Captain America, maybe without Black Widow. It's a movie where the secondary characters from the MCU get to stand up and prove their worth, possibly even setting up their own spin-offs. With Guardians Marvel has shown that their brand is the star, and by the time we get to A3 clearly people will be on board with the entire universe. Keep Iron Man - Robert Downey Jr's renegotiated contract seems to specify Avengers 3 as his next film - and you have a new launching pad for characters to take over from the current big guns.

Storywise this is all easy to do - Cap will be very busy with the fallout of Captain America 3, and I wouldn't be shocked to see Steve Rogers give up the shield at the end of that movie. Thor 3 is going to wrap up all the Asgardian drama, and could very well end with Thor forced to sit on his father's throne. Black Widow is easy to write out on another adventure. Hulk... well, Hulk's planet of residence could well be up in the air by 2018 or so.

For the actors this is all good news. Chris Evans has been living in the Marvel Cinematic Universe non-stop for the last few years. A year off to pursue other projects could help soften him up for further negotiations. And this just whets the audience's appetite for what comes next, especially if what comes next hits theaters the very next year.

This next part is speculation, but what if the big guns sit out Avengers 3 so that Marvel can bring them in for a crossover movie? A huge, all-franchise crossover that could be called Marvel's Infinity Gauntlet or Marvel's Secret War? What if Avengers 3 isn't the conclusion of the Thanos story but just the spark that ignites it in the massive crossover film that brings all the Marvel characters - TV included - together in one film? That's the sort of next-level thinking we expect from the House of Cinematic Ideas at this point.

Like I said, that last bit is speculation, but the rest comes from sources close to the actors, who have been having scheduling discussions with Marvel. We're still a ways off from any of this being official, but this is all part of the plan that Kevin Feige and the creative committee hatched some time ago. I really think they're about to redefine blockbuster moviemaking again.

Could the Russo Bros. be directing Avengers 3 and 4?

Quote:
I've been sitting on this for a couple of weeks now, waiting to get an ok from my sources to run it... and I got scooped. Well played, Variety.

Well, here's the story: Robert Downey Jr hasn't been negotiating with Marvel for Iron Man 4 - he's been negotiating for Captain America 3. Yes, Iron Man will be co-starring in Cap 3, which is either going to be called Civil War or Fallen Son - I've heard both names getting tossed around.

And this isn't some small bit. This isn't a cameo. Downey will be shooting 30 or 40 days on the film. He's basically co-starring. When Marvel heard that DC moved Batman v Superman off their Cap 3 date they wondered if they had heard the story and knew that Batman versus Superman wasn't going to match up to Captain America versus Iron Man.

I'm not clear on how the Civil War story will play out, since the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn't have secret IDs to reveal, but I can tell you this: the fallout of Avengers: Age of Ultron is going to be huge in this movie. There is a lot of destruction in that film. It makes an impact.

More than that, Marvel is looking at Cap 3 as Avengers 2.5. It's going to be another ensemble picture, and it could feature Cap's new team from the end of Age of Ultron. Last I heard (and they haven't shot this scene yet, so it could change) that team is Falcon, War Machine, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch and Black Widow, as well as probably The Vision (although I have been told Black Widow will not be much of a presence in Cap 3). And once again the events of a Captain America movie will reshape the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Remember when I told you Cap wouldn't be in Avengers 3? This is why. At the end of Cap 3 the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be in a tough, dark place, with the heroes scattered and defeated. That will continue through Avengers 3, and it will leave the world open to the threat of Thanos in either Avengers 4 or the big universe-wide team-up movie, whichever comes first.

How closely will Captain America 3 tie in with Avengers 3? I've been told that the Russo Brothers are in talks to direct Avengers 3 and possibly 4. Sources tell me that they're the favorites of Marvel right now and that they are the guys Kevin Feige want to pick up the mantle from Joss Whedon.

This is huge news, and it shows that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going to continue to grow and change, and that just when you think you know what they're doing - just when you assume it's Thanos in Avengers 3 - they throw a curveball at you.

How will Civil War play out? I know that at the end of Age of Ultron Tony Stark retires from The Avengers and possibly even from being Iron Man. He feels very responsible for what happened in that film, as the Ultron project was his brainchild. Here's my guess for Cap 3: with that in mind, and aware of the destruction his out of control robot caused, Tony thinks that the Age of Miracles is too unregulated. With the fall of SHIELD there's simply no one keeping tabs on everybody. That scene of Black Widow in front of the Congressional committee in The WInter Soldier was a late addition, and it speaks to this - these super beings are answering to no one. And Tony decides that's wrong. Which brings him into direct conflict with Captain America, who is still leading a team of Avengers. I don't think this will follow the exact outline of the comic book story, but simply take the concept and the beloved Marvel idea of heroes battling.

Does Cap die in this movie? Like I said, I've heard the title Fallen Son getting tossed around a lot. I've been told that the story is Civil War, but Fallen Son has come from multiple sources as the actual title. That definitely leads me to believe he could buy it at the end. Or maybe his super soldier serum gets depleted? Or maybe he just hangs up the shield, taking on a new name, like Nomad or something. Either way, he's sitting out Avengers 3, allowing Chris Evans to stay in the MCU for one more Avengers movie.

But if Marvel is willing to renegotiate with Downey - he's getting a $40 million payday, plus back end participation - that probably means they'll sit down with Chris Evans to get him back for more movies. Sitting out Avengers 3 gives Evans some needed time off from the character, and could make him decide he likes the checks Marvel keeps writing him.

I wouldn't mind that at all. They crafted the best solo outing, and arguably the best MCU film period.

They gave us the best action in a MCU film too, IMO. And that was just with the more "realistic" or grounded characters. Imagine what they could do getting to play with Hulk, Thor, Iron Man.

I said elsewhere, but it would be great if Whedon could write Avengers 3 and 4, and the Russo brothers direct.

They could build popularity around new hero's. Nobody (regular people lol) cared about or even knew about someone like Ironman before the MCU. Heck many people I know didn't know who Thor was either. Marvel will make it work.
