Are you guys just keeping the sets separate or are you making your own Trilogy sets and putting all the discs in two or three cases?

*I won't buy Laser Discs or VHSes, only because I don't have a LD player or VCR, but otherwise, whatever works.
I buy whatever I can get my hands on. I posted my collection a few pages back.

For me, an older presentation of a Star Wars film is just as important as the bonus features. For this reason I will never be getting rid of any of my VHS tapes or DVDs (and I am still searching for the Laserdiscs and CEDs).

I still want to be able to see the 1997 CG Jabba in Episode IV, the puppet Yoda in Episode I, the crappy lightsaber effects from the early VHS releases.

Just for my own archival purposes I suppose

Therefore, it makes no difference to me if no extras are ported over... I already own everything anyways.

Puppets, models, and matte paintings are a larger part of cinema history than just the 70s-80s... how about, since the first films were made?

I was stating why they shouldn't be removed from the Star Wars films, so I was focusing on the years during which the OT was released.

They really didn't become huge until the 60s when science fiction took off. I'm not saying they weren't used before that, but the late 60's to late 80's is when they really took off in terms of special effects.

EDIT: I thought I stated "puppets, models, etc. are a HUGE part of 70's-80's films..."

guess I left the word out

Well, the main reason I'm thinking of ditching the film DVDs is because I'm not sure I'll be able to stand them anymore, if the Blu-Rays prove to be as great as they appear to be. I'm not a diehard collector by any means, but if I decide to get rid of the film DVDs, others can have them for free at that point, if they want them. I'll even pay for shipping.

I figured what you meant.

They're definitely an important part of Star Wars. I can't wait to see how some of the models look in HD. But I think it's important to note that mattes have been used as long as they've been recording cinematic history haha

I admit that their charity work is admirable and they do a nice job on their costumes. I just don't think that the subject matter is even remotely relevant enough to the films to warrant its inclusion here. I doubt the interest will be there for average consumers and fans alike.

The 501st "Star Warriors" doc using up 84 minutes on this set leaves me shaking my head. Especially when you consider that 3 of the 4 classic docs are included here while the 4th, From Star Wars to Jedi, is left off. The 501st doc is taking up space that FSWTJ should have filled, in my opinion. FSWTJ has never even been released on DVD. I guess George Lucas just put Star Warriors on there as an homage to them. I think it would have been more appropriate as a separate release or even as a store exclusive.

The R2-KT is the R2 unit that they made for the founder's little daughter, correct?

Yep...

R2-KT started off as a real-world replica of an R2-series astromech droid with pink highlights. Albin Johnson, the founder of the 501st Legion, wanted to build a pink droid for his daughter Katie, who was dying from brain cancer (In fact, the "KT" suffix would appear to be a reference to her name). When it was realized that he did not have enough time, R2-KT was built by Jerry Greene, master droid builder, with the help of the R2 Builders Club.

R2-KT makes appearances at children's hospitals, Star Wars Celebration and charity events in the southeastern United States.

A Hasbro action figure of this droid was sold at San Diego Comic-Con 2007 and the character had a cameo in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film.

And I'm not surprised there's a Doc on there for them. Lucas was moved by all they do for Charity.
And of course, as you can see above they were moved by Katie's story and honored her in a number of areas.

Yep. I didn't know the background story of the little girl until Beast's post above. I thought I remembered a snippet from someone's post on another board saying it was named for a little girl.

Thanks for the information. Poor girl. You feel terrible for anyone with that disease but especially a child and their parents. It's great that they built the robot and have used it in charitable causes and that it made it into the film. I'm sure she would have loved that.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the doc's inclusion on the set but I think they could have come up with a great idea for that documentary, much better than it just being put on the set and forgotten about eventually. Instead of it being included on the set, I think they should have sold it for $5-$10, right alongside the BD set on release day, with all proceeds going to children's charities. With Lucasfilm's great wealth and vast resources, they could have donated all their time and materials to producing and distributing it, while letting fans know that 100% of the purchase would go to charity. I know I would have bought it to support a good cause for sick children.

Default other thoughts on 84 minutes

That 84 minutes could have been better used for...

A. "From Star Wars to Jedi" Documentary
B. Skywalker Ranch Tour
C. Skywalker Ranch Archive Tour (they had clips of a documentary on starwars.com a couple years ago showing all the collectables, retro prints, toys etc)
D. TV Spots (toy/Coca-Cola/clothing commercials from the original and prequel trilogies)
E. Video of a possum trying to use a toilet
F. "Empire of Dreams" IN HD
G. A retrospect of changes made to the films throughout the years (a collage of scenes -stills even- of enhancements and scene changes from theatrical to 2011) Where it shows original, and progresses through the changes
H. "The Stars of Star Wars" (2000)

I hope they don't. There's absolutley no need to make that change. One of the reasons why those films worked was because of the puppet and Frank Oz. Visually, the puppet in TPM didn't work at all, hence the change.

I just want to see screen caps from A New Hope to see if the image throughout the film has crushed blacks or not!

Any of those would have made great choices, although I'm partial to A. I like B and F too.

'E' sounds pretty cool and would definitely make the set a must-buy, but they may have to change the ratings for that one.

Same here.

But very shorty they should start flooding in from all over(specially at AVS) and we will have more that enough to go through.

Can't hardly wait!

Sorry if this was someone else in the thread but I couldn't find it if so. With the price difference, what is the advantage of buying the complete saga over buy the two trilogies separately?

Separate trilogies - 3 discs each
Saga - 9 discs

You miss out on 3 discs of special features.

Yea, and early reports are that the deleted scenes are worth getting the whole saga for.
