Yep, some of the new 3d tv's have this feature. I personally have seen it in action and what I have seen hasn't been impressive (in terms of converting 2d into 3d). But you never know, it may work reasonably well with a film like avatar as it was shot for / and with 3d in mind.

One would think that the biggest movie of all time would have a Blu-ray review by now, as oppose to a bunch of people getting it early. But........no review's, and it's out in only 2 days. How weird

Fox has said that they won't be sending out copies to reviewers untill release day, and there is no doubt pressure and critics who have got the disc to not release there review untill fox wants them two. It's all a political play, trust me though the review will be: reference audio, reference picture, no special features, if you can wait it out, wait till november otherwise buy (everyonw knows if they like this film, so why bother writting the movie review part).

Madness, this is Pandora. Sorry, with your sig etc, I had to say that. I sadly probably have to wait even longer (the 29th), though Australia is notorious for breaking street date so I will probably have it by this time next week at the latest.

LOL.. Review copies might not have been sent out but it doesn't mean a reviewer can't buy it from an online vendor and getting it early.

yeah reviewer can buy it, but can't publish due restrictions from FOX.

True, but there is very little reason for them to spend extra money out of their pockets just to have a review up early. They can just wait for the screener or get it for $19.99 on release day if they choose to. Especially, like Mark just said, they probably couldn't publish the review early anyways.

Look, if you got an early review copy with a embargo, fine, that's just contractual stuff which you've to abide, but if you arrange something on your own, who the hell does Fox think they are to take your freedom of speech?

You're not even supposed to have the movie until Thursday, so why should you have a right to write a review on something you shouldn't even have yet?

A review written by you or me and a review written by a reviewer on here are two totally different things too. We aren't part of a staff of a website.

It's the retailer's fault, yes, but that still doesn't mean you are free to post a review if you are a reviewer for a website such as this one. A few people that have typed up reviews on the forums here, that's fine, but otherwise it's not.

When you say "contractual stuff", you kinda make it sound like there was an actual contract between Fox and websites/magazines. As far as I know, this is not the case. It isn't something you would normally put in a contract (at least not in any publication I know). Usually it's just an understanding, a quid pro quo if you will - the studio provides review copies, but can set certain conditions on the publication of the reviews. If someone violates those conditions, then the studio can simply choose to withhold any further cooperation.

And the reason it's usually not contractual (again, AFAIK) is because this usually just represents free advertising for the studios. There's no money involved, unlike actual PAID advertising.

More often than not, the studios feel they benefit from the free publicity, even with less-than-glowing reviews.
