Tim Burton's best movie? Danny Elfman's best score? All debatable, but this is certainly the most fun you'll ever have with a movie that opens by drowning its two leads...

That'll do for this year, 50 seems like a good stopping point.

10/27 The Shining (1980)

A film that I've seen many times and still find something new with each viewing. There are so many horror elements in the
story, and all work beautifully because of the magnificent structure. I consider that Kubrick made a terrific adaptation,
taking the best aspects of the Stephen King's novel, while making something totally his own. The soundtrack and sound
design works in a subliminal way, Jack Nicholson gives an iconic performance, the camera work is tremendously inventing.
There are so many great images, subtleties and ambiguity that creates a really mentally stimulating experience. A masterpiece.

10/28 The Babadook (2014)

One of the best horror films I've seen in recent years. The script is very well written, a great metaphor of depression,
loneliness and desperation. The escalating sense of hopelesness is truly unnerving, accentuated by an excellent performance
of Essie Davis.

10/29 The Exorcist (1973)

This film still is one of the most terrifying I ever saw. The special effects still impresses, the acting is exemplary (is always
a luxury to have Max Von Sydow in your cast), the main character is really complex. The possesed Linda Blair truly is stuff of
nightmares.

10/30 The Innocents (1961)

I consider this the greatest ghost story of all time. The script of Truman Capote is marvelous, full of great dialogue and ambiguity.
The performance of Deborah Kerr is anthological, the cinematography of Freddie Francis is extraordinary, production design is magnificent.
The ghostly appearances are creepy and greatly filmed. The casting, especially the children, is incredible. I can only give praises to
this masterpiece.

Halloween (1978) (4K)

I was never a fan of this, but the more I see it, the more I understand. Michael Myers, the ultimate undying, unknowable, unthinkable killer is a genuinely scary villain. Everything this film does characterizes his uncanny presence well.

Also, next chance I get--like if a dog or cat runs away or something--I want to shout hysterically "He's gone from here! The evil is gone!" just like Loomis.

Halloween

The unbeatable classic. Every time I see it there's more I appreciate. This time I especially took note of the humor in the movie. Lindsay being an unintentionally troublesome kid, Lynda's constant "Totally"s, Dr. Loomis scaring the kids at the Meyers house, this film can be just as funny and likable as it is suspenseful when it wants to be. It adds a lot of humanity to the cast, which increases the tragedy and desperation of the situation, as well as enjoyment in rewatches.

My original plan was to follow this up with Halloween II, but I've been fighting a bad cold and just got back to classes today, so instead I caught something lighter I'd been wanting to watch.

Carry On Screaming

Puns, innuendo, cross dressing, what more do you want? The Carry On gang tackles horror, and they do it with the usual arsenal of bawdy jokes and exaggerated acting. Not only that, but there are also some genuinely impressive sets to be seen. It's no Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein, but it's a fun and spooky film that was a good way to close off the Halloween season.

Finally popped in my 4k copy and it looks great! And I hate to admit this, but watching this I've realized I've never watched it from start to finish...just bits and pieces here and there like The Shining.

Michael Myers, the ultimate undying, unknowable, unthinkable killer is a genuinely scary villain. Everything this film does characterizes his uncanny presence well. Also, next chance I get--like if a dog or cat runs away or something--I want to shout hysterically "He's gone from here! This time I especially took note of the humor in the movie. Lindsay being an unintentionally troublesome kid, Lynda's constant "Totally"s, Dr. Loomis scaring the kids at the Meyers house, this film can be just as funny and likable as it is suspenseful when it wants to be. It adds a lot of humanity to the cast, which increases the tragedy and desperation of the situation, as well as enjoyment in rewatches. My original plan was to follow this up with Halloween II, but I've been fighting a bad cold and just got back to classes today, so instead I caught something lighter I'd been wanting to watch. Carry On Screaming 1/2 Puns, innuendo, cross dressing, what more do you want? The Carry On gang tackles horror, and they do it with the usual arsenal of bawdy jokes and exaggerated acting. Not only that, but there are also some genuinely impressive sets to be seen. It's no Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein, but it's a fun and spooky film that was a good way to close off the Halloween season.

And I hate to admit this, but watching this I've realized I've never watched it from start to finish...just bits and pieces here and there like The Shining. 10/31 Halloween 2 Now this one I've seen from start to finish (on TV at least) and I actually like this more than the first. Watching from the Scream Factory release, it looks great as well.
