That is no problem AFF. But up the WB shop refers to the Nolan version still here at this link, https://www.wbshop.com/products/2001...odyssey-4k-uhd

But the outcry over the urine colored tints caused them to dump it as best as I can tell, as Digital Bit clearly says that the Nolan version is not on 4k. There is a bigger story about something behind the scenes on this. The way Leon Vitali wanted this print and the way Nolan wanted it are entirely different, it seems the Vitali version finally won

I don't really care about backlot politics, honestly. I care about what's on the UHD disc, and what's on the UHD disc is beautiful.

Sorry, but people who seriously thought the "unrestored" version was the one that was going to be released on disc are deluded.

Thankfully, this is mostly limited to WB. The other studios are still doing quality Blu-rays (when they do them, that is), and smaller labels like Criterion, Shout Factory, etc., still focusing on Blu-ray, are continuing to do great work.

I would be more upset about the errors here, but I'm not really in as much of a hurry to get this as I thought I was going to be. The IMAX screening back in August was so mindblowing that it'll keep me satiated for some time (and no home video version will compare in any case).

Yeah, it's unfortunate Fox and Sony aren't remastering the BDs when they do a new UHD transfer though. At least Warner is giving you new BD versions, flawed or not.

I just mentioned this to someone else, but have you thought of getting a UHD player with good SDR down-conversion? Then you can watch the new masters without upgrading the ol' telly.

I briefly had a Sony UBP-X800 late last year (I returned it when it became apparent that UHDs didn't look good on my set). I wasn't at all impressed with the SDR down-conversion. My memory is that the image was dim and de-saturated.

I'm still happy with BD releases at the moment. Sure, some of the big studios are ignoring us with half-baked catalog releases, or none at all, but there's still much out there for me. I'm picking up Princess Bride from Criterion tomorrow, and getting City Slickers & the Man in the Iron Mask from Shout for Christmas (along with Arrow's 12 Monkeys).

I have been flirting off and on with future proofing by picking up 4K releases for both new movies and catalog releases (you'll see I have some in my collection). Mostly, I do this when there's some kind of exclusive packaging involved. As long as it includes a top-notch, quality Blu-ray, I'm not against it.

There's a WB press release posted in the 4K thread explaining the restoration process for the Blu-ray. Including explaining the roles of Nolan and HVH.

The X800 is horrible for SDR conversion. If you ever feel like giving it another try the Panasonic players are supposed to be good for that.

I must be missing something, because I thought that these discs were scheduled to be released on October 30th. But now the info is saying November 20th? And how are so many of you able to comment on the two different discs, while they are still not supposed to be on retail shelves?

It's already been released in Canada, I bought my copy in a B&M store just yesterday.

As far as the subtitle options listed in the main review here and UHD reviews other places go, I assume this Blu-ray release is region free.
Can anyone confirm?

I live outside of North America, but Amazon ships it to my country and I would really like to order it, only my player is Region B.

It's Warner so it's region free.

The white level seems to be too high on the 4K, e.g. the space station flyby, where some highlight details are blown out. This is the Blu-ray not the UHD.

He's saying the contrast is high and detail is lost in the whites on the new BD, which uses the new 4k master. It was remastered and graded in HDR, so the BD is an SDR down-conversion which can cause issues.

Been wanting to watch the Imax this week in a dome setting but heard it was insanely loud to the point of being painful during a few scenes. Dunkirk already brutalized my ears at the same place last year and so I'll probably pass.

That sounds awful. I would skip it and give yourself a better shot at being able to hear down the line. Overally loud events at the cinema, concerts, etc. are just not worth the potential damage.

Except the post starting out by saying "on the 4K" and then went on to say "on the Blu, not the UHD".
