I guess SF enjoys accepting returns.
There was a period a couple years ago where every disc I was getting seemed to be scratched. It has been better lately. The occasional disc still comes with a small scratch or two but they don’t seem to affect playback. This is by far the worst looking disc I have ever received. Can’t believe how mangled it looks.

This was a good blind buy! I had a blast with it. There were a few tiny scratches in the middle of the data surface on the UHD disc but it played flawlessly. There are a few even smaller ones on the BD but I’ll have to check that disc another night.

Some of you guys keep forgetting ( or just don't know) that, Blu-rays and 4K UHD discs have a protective layer coating on them, unlike DVDs. If the scratches are not deep enough beneath the coating, it will not affect the playability of the disc.

We're not forgetting anything. Considering what SF is charging for these UHDs, we should NOT be receiving scratched, aka DAMAGED product. That is precisely the point.

You know what??? If Shout Factory, or any other distributor did ship pristine condition discs, you all would still find something to b*tch and complain about, so it really doesn't matter because, they are going to look in every nook and cranny under a microscopic, trying to find something else wrong with it. I don't know why in the f*ck they even buy movies in the the first place because, all they're going to is find fault in them. The problem is not the movies, it's their uncontrollable OCD and anal retentiveness. They don't need to buy movies period; they need to go and seek professional help for their mental condition.

You're the one who seems to need help, with your anger issues.

It's thanks to people not bending over to the companies, that we get these things fixed, since the labels don't seem to have any QC anymore.
Look what happened to House at the Edge of the Park.
After the criticism, they fixed replacements.

Just because YOU are satisfied with shitty releases and manufacturing flaws, doesn't mean the rest of us are.

I shouldn't feed trolls. I shouldn't feed trolls. Mental conditions have nothing to do with scratched discs, and I think you know this perfectly fine. Are you possibly behind Scream Factory's or Kino Lorber's printing presses for these discs? Is that why you find it so frustrating when someone complains about something that should be complained about?

Perhaps it isn't those who find these scratched discs who have the problem...?

4K discs don't have the same coating that Blu-ray has though. So yes, brand new discs coming pre-scratched is definitely something to worry about.

My store sends back stuff all the time and they are usually bent steelbooks and 4K discs with issues. Hardly any regular BDs get exchanged.

Yep. My Frankenstein 4K has a severe scratch/scuff. The film will play up to a point.

That's interesting. I really didn't know that, but suspected something like that was the case based on how many 4K discs I see scratched up in new products.

Even if I see a Blu-ray with a light scratch (which is rare in my experience) — it often runs through a CRC program free from any errors.

4K UHD discs on the other hand? If they appear scratched, it seems at least a good 50/50 chance they'll have playback errors when checked.

This was a bit of a slog to get through tbh. I've mentioned that I was never a big fan of this type of film so that could be a factor. If it weren't for the boobs, this could've easily been passed off as a TV movie (or an episode of the Voyagers! TV series). Dunno, these kinds of movies always sort of look and feel cheap/cheaply made and this one is no exception. The generic-sounding score didn't help much, either IMO. All in all - an OK timewaster but nowhere near on the same level as Beastmaster or Conan the Barbarian. Also, frankly, I'm surprised Shout gave this the 4K treatment. Transfer looked good for the most part but I think if someone were to do a side by side comparison with a Blu-ray, the differences would be indistinguishable. Not one of the better 4K discs I've watched. Alligator, OTOH, looks fantastic.

I have several Italian knockoffs sitting unwatched in my collection which I suspect I'll never get to lol.

Honestly not looking forward to getting this with all these reports of scratched discs. I've had to exchange the past 6 or 7 SF releases I've bought because the discs were absolutely MANGLED. Like some of the worst scratches I've ever seen. Like someone scraped the disc across a concrete floor. I mean who knows, maybe that's what's happening to them at the replication plant. Criterion has been bad lately as well, but SF takes the cake on this one.

The conspiracy theorist in me says that when these things happen it is because somebody got a good deal on B stock discs from the replicator.

Multiple retailers though? I've had this happen from like 3 different places.

No, in this scenario it would be SF is buying B stock from the replicators to make their discs.

BTW, here's mine I thought I had escaped unscathed until the very last twist of the disc under light.
