Thanks roar - yes I got the museum glass this time. You can't tell there's glass in it unless there's direct light right behind you. It's nuts. And dangerous because now there's no way I can go back to regular UV.

I know what you mean about the museum glass because it's so nice it is hard to go back to anything else after using it. That TCM looks awesome and the frame is perfect for the tone of the movie.

When it comes to mattes I like to pick a colour for the most outter matte that is present through out the picutre, a dominant colour if you will... then I like to pick a colour out of the print, more of a secondary colour, or one that even pop's to help pick that colour out, then I like to add a 3rd one that matches the frame. Then if I don't like how that looks I throw out all of those ideas and just play with more options

Sorry to dig up such an old post, but I'm finally at the point of having the financial means to start professionally framing my Mondo posters. Think I'll start with my 3 Barrels Limited Jaws poster after today's Jaws announcement on blu ray.

I'll start by saying I really like the way this one is framed. So from what I understand, the outer most matte is the "dominant" color, in this case the grey. Then, the "middle" matte is in between, is it that black thin layer? The same color as the frame, correct? Then the first matte (closest to the print) is a "secondary" color, in this case, the white? Do I have that right?

My plan is to get for sure acid free mattes, and glare free glass.

So if I am looking at the Jaws print, do you think a white color for the first matte (closest to the print), small black matte for the frame, then a light blue outter matte with a black frame would look good? This is my first framing job, so hopefully I can get the "feel" for it in the future. Thanks for any suggestions!

MrStaypuft, if you go to Americanframe.com you can upload a jpeg of your poster and fool around with multiple mats/frames to see how it looks. They have enough colors on there for you to get an idea.

You're close... The top matte is the grey, the middle matte is actually the gold and the bottom matte is the black. The white you see the border of the picture.

For yours I think I'd try and pull some red into it, so I might look at a deeper of the blues, not the bright one on top, with a red middle and a black on the bottom... but like I also said, if that doesn't fit I just start mixing and matching and driving the sales people crazy Though a good sales person often leads you in the right direction anyway. I also like househeads idea, I haven't tried it before.

Great looking print btw, I don't recognize it.

Edit: Just using the site househead recommended and ran through some colours... I don't like the blue on top at all I think this actually looks good with a white on top, or if you could find the right white to match the sharks body, I think that would look alright on top, I would then go with the red then black I believe, I'd like to see what that would look like at the framers, as they will lay it all out for you with their samples.

The museum glass is amazing... I can't even tell it is in the frame, it must look stellar in person!

Nice room, I think we'd get along. I just hung that same Rocky print in my stairwell, got it and a Jaws poster for 9 cents apiece on Amazon from PosterRevolution a few weeks ago.

Is that a Force FX lightsaber? That's my next thing I'd like to get for my area, and the vertical stand you have it in looks nice.

Yeah, its the Vader ForceFX saber.....lol it's actually just on a normal hanging nail, there is a perfect metal loop on the saber handle that hangs onto the nail nicely.. no stand required! I have a very generous wife that bought it for me last month, not to mention that everything you are looking at is in our bedroom.

Here are a few more:

The last one is actually a painted canvas i got last year. Thanks for looking guys!

Yeah just about everything you will find on MoviePosterShop.com is a reprint, or counterfeit, stay far away from dealers like that if you're collection consists of originals. I prefer metal frames myself, professionally done by a gal local to where I live who does amazing work. UV-glass, acid-free backing, I don't ever matte a standard original movie poster but items smaller I do at times. Sorry for the delay in responding, I am fighting a very bad flu virus.

Sideshow added another Disney/Whalen/Mondo variant, there was a time when their Disney variants would sell out fast but for some reason they aren't anymore, perhaps the tides are changing and people are getting burned out, doubtful but you never know. I would have to assume variants would be offered for 20,000 Leagues and Tron/Tron Legacy by Ansin, but still nothing, when (and if) they do, they will go fast.

Are there any other sites you recommend, or is movieposters good enough for me? I saw your post on the first pages, do you sell posters too? Thanks for weeding us through the BS!
Yeah pretty much the same, and they seem to be changing their names on Amazon a lot. From what I heard they got kicked off Amazon's UK site and I noticed they were selling under PopCultureGraphics on Amazon here in the USA but changed that name too. There was a time when MovieGoods was a legit dealer so what your friend purchased could have been an original but its so hard to say with them, all the shady tactics they have pulled over the years leaves a bad feeling for collectors and unfortunately so many new collectors to the hobby have no idea what they are in for.

MoviePoster.com is a good dealer, there are a few others out there by they are getting harder to find. I will send you a PM directly....

I've now learned a bit about the "minty white" issue and believe I have a beautiful set of fake lobby cards. Man the truth hurts sometimes.
Double-sided originals now feature a faded backside to them, while still double-sided, the imagery on the back is not as vibrant as it is on the front. I don't believe Paramount was doing that for posters when that ST film came out. I know Warner Brothers didn't start with their posters until around March 2008 with the two final styles for The Dark Knight being some of the first that had this new look.

If it's 27x40, I don't buy anywhere but movieposter.com. I hate buying reprints and single sided. In some cases it's impossible to find a double-sided. Now I have bought some knockoffs at moviepostershop.com, mainly the 11x17 "masterprints" just to fill in some holes where a large poster can't fit. But if anything I want the real deal.

I was buying from them but the last few times I got damaged posters. They replaced them but it made me question whether or not I should keep buying from them.
