Blu-ray Samurai

![]() Quote:
The whole point and theme of the movies, at least until Jurassic World came out, is that you can't tame or control nature. Specially nature that is not from our time and that we are completely ignorant about. It was also established that raptors in particular are too dangerous and intelligent to be controlled (hence Grant's shock when he learns that they are on of the species being bred), let alone be tamed. Yet these new movies trump over all that build up and established danger for pandering fan fiction of pet raptors, team-up action sequences and money shots... "Oh, but it's not really tamed, not all the time". That's beside the point. |

Training raptors like Owen does, a tenuous relationship between man and intelligent animal, doesn't bother me.
Raptors in the military is flat-out stupid. They would be far more expensive to grow and train than simply recruiting more human soldiers, but far more likely to go off the rails than either soldiers or drones. Army raptors is a SyFy Original Movie, not a legit JP sequel. |

If anything, the film is underthinking it. I'm not expecting total scientific accuracy or plausibility (if I did, I'd be *****ing about feathers), but I do expect them to give at least a single shit. JP1 based its dinosaurs and science on reasonable extensions of the then-current scientific consensus, and once you got over the idea of "dinosaur theme park," nothing in the film felt too implausible. It took the premise seriously.
JW did not take its premise seriously. The park did not feel like a real place, instead coming across as a loosely-defined space that exists solely to dispense expensive-looking setpieces, most of which make very little sense. Why would the hamster balls both allow guests to freely control their path and not automatically return to the ride entrance in the event of a lockdown? Why would anyone think the Indominus escaped from its habitat when all they can see is that the door is scratched up and no one outside the habitat noticed it climbing out? Why would they train raptors for combat when it's extremely cost-inefficient and obviously unreliable? The filmmakers assumed that it can get away with not making sense because it's just a monster movie, and that the audience won't care either way. And perhaps they assumed correctly, considering how much money the film made. But considering how the original film never devolved to such lows, it's a real slap in the face to its legacy. And from what I've seen of Fallen Kingdom, it looks like it's going to be more of the same. |

You can be fun while still being plausible and respectful of the audience's intelligence. I understand you enjoyed JW, but for me, it wasn't fun. It felt condescending and lazy, like no one on the project actually cared about the film and just phoned it in because they knew it would make money anyway.

Complaining a 4th entry in a series is too over the top is pretty unfair. Any first part of a movie series is going to be the most serious because it’s only about 1 idea. You have to allow sequels to do different things and turn into other stories.
I don’t think anything in JW was too ridiculous to believe. It still very much shows humans thinking they can control dinosaurs but can’t. I loved the actual JW park. The futuristic design and open attractions were great imo. |

One could argue that pet raptors and other stuff is exactly the kind of stuff children wish for. But sure, let's pretend that those that criticize are the childish ones. |

I just spent too much money buying tie-in pop cans, brickheadz and figures from this movie.
