we don't know if it is magnetism or even the flux vortex, it could be a force that we don't know as of yet or maybe like magnetic hill it is some kind of optical illusion and lets face it the world created is extremely odd and "unnatural" that it would not be surprising if in a follow up we find out that it is not real or natural.
And yes gravity is a weak force it is actually the weakest of the four forces (strong nuclear force, electromagnetism, weak nuclear force, gravity) known to man kind with the weak nuclear force being 10^25x stronger. It takes a planet as massive as the earth to hold me down as it does and I can still stand up with no problem and even jump when I need to. And the only reason all of the examples stop eventually is because the opposing force stopped and gravity is stronger then nothing. I hope you enjoy it, just sit back and enjoy the ride. It is not strong on the sci like Trek, it is more like Star wars in that respect, a cool story that takes place in a different place which just happens to be the stars. On the other hand it does appear to be allegorical (i.e. using the space and future to tell a story that can’t be told in the present) so in that way it is good sci-fi. In a way it is like a Salvador Dali painting, looks odd and nothing makes sense when you see it superficially, but it drags you in (if you leave it) and makes you think |

![]() ![]() ![]() And 3D should definitely not become mainstream imagine when all movies where in 3D and you will have to sit through all movies with these stupid glasses. You will go blind or insane when you hit 30 No 3D should be for specific movies like Animation and sci-fi and some horror movies. But the rest should remain 2D like it always has been. |

I have to say that this movie was basically A Man Called Horse in outer space. I thought the effects were fine but I just kept sitting there saying "Will I buy this on blu-ray? and kept answering no because the story line was basically generic and hit on all the basic sci-fi cliches (a Cameron writing strongpoint). But I had to chuckle when leaving after the film my dad, who is 77, said "Was that supposed to be 3D? Nothing came out of the screen at me." The biggest selling point of the film that millions of dollars got spent on and that was supposed to revolutionize filmaking couldn't even convince someone, whose last 3D movie was the Creature from the Black Lagoon, that it was in 3D. In truth, I thought that the 3D was much more immersive than most and did feel like the action surrounded me from time to time but still, a disappointment as far as I'm concerned. Titanic, even with its weak story line, was a better movie.

I was able to see this for my third time on an Imax screen and my 4th time all together. I neve realized HOW MUCH the Imax makes a difference on the whole. The sound is so much louder and the screen looks so much nicer. Of course its larger, but I never noticed the other things. After seeing it on Imax 3D than Real D 3D. I really think if I do see this again it will be Imax only. Will be waiting for 2D when it hits Blu.

I went to see the movie today, in IMAX. I have read where many complained and many cheered about a great many things; I have nothing but Cheer!
I love this movie; from start to finish it was perfect. Lots of folks complained about the blu skinned people, a reflection of many peoples intolerance to people of different races, different skin tones and beliefs than those of themselves. I was reminded immediately of the struggle of the native American Indians and of the settlers who came to their land; with the desire to kill them and take it by force instead of a desire to move in with them and coexist! It had the appropriate ending, in my opinion. I didn't think the movie was too long nor did i find it too slow at any point. i think it had just the right amount of action to go with as well as help tell the story as needed. The visuals were incredible, and the audio, my Lord my family and I were blown away. Come on, what did we expect from James Cameron doing a revolutionary movie in 3D, in IMAX with a 12kw sound system it was top notched all the way. The planet looked beautiful, the indigenous people looked incredible and I loved the fact that the "avatars" were made to look like their host so they were made to be remembered as humans in avatar suits, as it were! The space ships were very well made and everything looked very real. The sound system in IMAX is not to be missed. 12kw of power sound makes sure you know when things are "happening"! I may very well go back and see it one more time in IMAX. Like all really great action movies you have to see it at least twice. The first time is to really be amazed, the second time is to be able to pay more attention because there is always something that you missed as you were busy processing so much the first time. This will be a day one buy for both the 2d and once it's released later on, the 3d version on blu. I go to the movies to be entertained just like when I pop a blu in at home (movie not pill ![]() I am sure when it's all said and done, the movie will make a boat load (nice Titanic pitch in there! ![]() ![]() Don't miss the IMAX experience! Take the family and talk about it after the movie is done. perfect 10 |

I saw the film twice in 3D, once on a standard screen with a 4K projector and a second time in IMAX, and I was absolutely mortified at how much better the standard screen looked. I was all geared up for it to blow me away on viewing number 2, but the screen was noticeably darker and more blurry.
The sound was definitely a plus, but I doubt I'll go to that IMAX again. Such a disappointment. |

Hey,
Saw Avatar in IMAX 3D today. It was great. But,... I'm not sure I love the 3D all that much. Whenever my head began to tilt at all the 3D just quit and I got double-vision that was blurry. I just watched a bit of Ice Age 3 on Blu with my kids and I'm glad my HT is so enjoy-able. I almost never want to go to a real theater. The last movie I saw at a theater before today was Hancock because I had free movie cash from Men in Black. Maybe it's just phycological or something but I really prefer my HT for watching movies even if the IMAX screen is much bigger and the sound system is also bigger. -Brian |

I have two friends that have now seen Avatar 4 times each! Once each in 2D, once each in IMAX 3D and twice each in Real D. Both of them said they feel the Real D experience was the best. To them, the Real D 3D simply seemed more "natural". Their first viewing was in Real D but then they felt it was necessary to go see it in IMAX 3D to compare. They felt the Real D was better so they saw it once more in Real D just to be sure. Then they went to see it in 2D because they had nothing to do that night and there was a late showing they could just catch once they decided they were going to go.
I've seen it once in Real D and I'll be going again (with my wife and some friends) on Monday to see it in Real D. I may try to take in the IMAX 3D version myself but I'm not in a hurry. Some people swear by the IMAX 3D but I know too many that are swearing at it. Mark |

Even though my HT is nowhere near as fancy as a lot of people's, I still enjoy watching movies on it as opposed to paying the money to see a movie in the theater. I made an exception for Avatar though because I wanted to see it on the big screen and in 3-D at least once. |

Sounds like one person's IMAX theater isn't all that hot.
I do know that seating factors in a lot. I had great/perfect seats for my viewing. Had I been forced to sit lower, I would have just left. So, this is coming on BLU in a couple weeks right? hahaha ![]() |

Another thing to keep in mind about the IMAX is wether it's a true IMAX theatre or not. AMC has "IMAX" theatres that are just basically converted 35mm theatres with digital projectors that aren't even close to the resolution of an IMAX print. From my IMAX experiences (in a real IMAX theatre)... With their 3D I see shaddows. With DLP 3D (RealD 3D) I do not see the same shaddows.
I did, however, notice that with the live action stuff my eyes did start getting crossed with Avatar. There were also a few points where my eyes couldn't focus, and I couldn't tell wether something is supposed to have depth or not. But when the CG stuff started, my eyes were perfectly fine. I think it's the type of cameras they used and how they focused on things (and also how my eyes focused). |

I am getting ready to see Avatar Monday and was going to see it at IMAX 3D when I read this thread and members were talking about RealD 3D as actually being the best over IMAX 3D and 2D
I feel stupid but what the heck is RealD 3D and how is it different then the 3D at IMAX? |
