So Bullmoose sent me a Release Date change...legitimately thought it was for my Phantasm Sphere Set, but it was for this.

The weird part? They apologized for the date changing from Jan 29, 2019, to Nov 19, 2019.

So, yeah. Haha. That's all.

The 4.0 mix is quite something, but I find a bit unbalanced at times. It doesn't fold down well to e.g. headphone stereo. Hope the Atmos mix will be better balanced, while keeping the eerie sound positioning.

Will be putting this disc in the steelbook.

Are other retailers going to be selling this?

lol "the MSRP"

just some arbitrary number used to make the increased ticket price appear more palatable. Synapse can charge whatever they want, but it's silly to reference the MSRP. As if it has any semblance of significance.

I think it's a combination of the Italian rights holders knowing the cult following this movie has and charging accordingly, as well as the amount of work it took for Synapse to completely restore the film, and then ontop of that they have to master a UHD which costs more to press than a standard blu-ray. Didn't it take them literally years to restore the movie? Also a UHD for a boutique label costs more for them to release than a major studio who owns the films they release outright. If boutique labels like Arrow/Synapse/SF start releasing UHDs, they're gonna be more expensive than Universal/Warner/Paramount catalogue titles, so be prepared for that.

The only thing I do not understand is that it took really long hours to go from scan to final BD presentation, but here they went from raw scan again and it took almost no time in comparison? Sure they went from raw scan again which require redoing all the fixes?

Yes, MSRPs are silly, but the person I was responding to had said they wouldn’t be purchasing this until the price hit 50% off MSRP or something.

Cliff Mac from Shout hinted at the bolded in an interview or podcast thingy, that when the majors can put out something like Alien for $14.99 on release day (though they're not all that cheap!) but Shout's bean counters are looking at a $30 or $40 RRP for their prospective UHD titles then they fear they just can't compete in the market.

BUT this is what makes Synapse's UHD of Suspiria an interesting test case. We've already had another indie dip their toe into the 4K water with Kino's Hannibal but that wasn't a movie that was likely to garner HUGE sales - nor are most of the MGM titles made available to them for possible 4K release. Suspiria, on the other hand, is pretty much the dictionary definition of a cult favourite, with a legion of, ah, 'dedicated' fans, so even though they're charging us up the arseh*le for the 4K edition I can see it selling in more than enough numbers to justify itself (and Synapse charge up the arseh*le for their stuff anyway, let's be fair).

Tenebrae steel 45.00
Suspiria steel 45.00
Phenomena steel 45.00

Not exactly cheap but I along with many others ponied up and were very pleased.

After the Phenomena steel I bought the arrow limited edition box another $50 and suffice to say if a Phenomena 4k uhd came out I’m not gonna lie I’ll be buying that also.

Synapse's SteelBook prices are not the norm for their releases, with most seeming to have an MSRP $25-30.

Pre-orders seem to be really strong for Synapse, as 4 days ago, Don posted the following on Instagram
Quote:
My goodness! Our SUSPIRIA 4K is currently sitting in Amazon's Horror Top 5! And, possibly even more astounding, it's also cracked Amazon's Top 50 for all movies. At 8:29am, it is at #47! Thanks all!

I think I’ll just wait this out and see if it drops in price in the future. The previous Blu-ray release will have to do for now.

TENEBRE is an old master but I really liked that they used a film print to fill in the bits for the English/International Version. I hope if there is a 4K release at some point, Synapse does it, because I can't even see Arrow going to those lengths. They didn't for either BD release they put out.

HANNIBAL movies have got to have higher sales than SUSPIRIA. You got Ridley Scott, Anthony Hopkins, Julianne Moore, and the Hannibal character, vs Dario Argento, Jessica Harper, and some actresses like Alida Valli who no one is going to know of unless they are into old cinema. IMDB - Hannibal with 239K votes, and Suspiria with 70K.

I rarely hear people talk about Hannibal. Suspiria on the other hand I still often hear buzz about.
