If he has a PS3 then he already has a 3D blu-ray player. Just simply a firmware upgrade away

I don't think so. Everything looked correct. And I know one theater is really good about such things. It's THX approved and I've never known them to screw anything up that bad in this particular theater. It looked like the IMAX screenshots we've seen. They're both DLP if that makes a difference in the version they receive to show the film.

Hey I don't know if this was posted already, I'm not going through 14+ pages, but I saw Amazon Fr has a preorder up for the Blu-Ray on April 16.

Think that could be the time frame when we see the barebones release? Probably too early but I hope so anyway.

Personally I look forward to seeing Avatar in 2D, just to satisfy my curiosity.

Actually you do need a 3D tv to see the full effect of 3D. So a firmware upgrade is not enough on the PS3

Yes, I knew that

3D Blu-ray + 3D Blu player + Receiver that can handle sound + 3D Display device + glasses

Um, what?

72" 3D TV from Vizio = $3500 MSRP, so realistically $3000 or less from most retailers.
PS3 or other 3D Blu-Ray player = $200-$300

So right there you have everything you need for less than $3500, and that's for a MASSIVE television. You could certainly go smaller for significantly less money.

Honestly, you need to stop running around to every single thread making up ludicrous claims about 3D.

actually you can get a 3d projector for 699, 720p that can go 120+inches.
200-300 for bluray so it should cost no more than 1200 to get 3d setup going.
that projector im talking about is optoma hd66.

Questions:

Can a regular receiver, (say my 606 ) handle the audio? Can it allow the 3D video to run through from the PS3 to the display?

Is that TV displaying the 3D in a format that allows the cheap glasses, like in the theaters now?

Are there projectors available instead of a flat screen? (I like the 120" )

Oh yeah I know you can get much much cheaper, I was just trying to give an example of the absolute most you should be paying. It's nowhere near 8k-10k, that's completely absurd.

Your receiver can handle the audio, but I'm not sure how the video will work - that's a good question.

The Vizio TV's will come bundled with active shutter glasses.

I wonder if maybe video direct to display with say HDMI and audio to the receiver with optical? -- From the usual PS3's like the one I have...

I hope we get the 3D format that allows for the cheap plastic glasses - I see the logistics with that working better, and marketing.

what ludicrous claims. I am right in most countries you can't even get a 3D tv yet and when they come out in europe for example they will be very expensive at first

I suppose someone can throw up a retail link and settle it pretty quick...

It won't be any more expensive than the manufacturer's suggested retail price, which is still very reasonable and nowhere near the prices you quoted. And your complaint that "it will be expensive at first" applies to ALL NEW TECHNOLOGIES, so I don't know why you've suddenly picked 3D to make such a huff about. Every new consumer electronic technology is expensive when it's first introduced. Hell, high-end HDTV's are still extremely expensive. The 3D spec is hardly going to affect that, except in the case of Vizio where it's actually making prices MORE COMPETITIVE.
