I think we should get a good game but i don't think we'll be seeing the Crysis Max settings graphics from high end PCs this generation but hopefully next generation aboslutely delivers something close as after all, the 1080p standar next gen with 60fps should be the minumum standard achievable IMO & the only difference between games then being how good a develope has managed to utilize the hardware to give better graphics & create more engagaing gaming experiences with that new found power |

Uncharted: Drake's Fortune can tap about 30% of the Cell Processor's potential, so I'm left wondering what will it be like if Crysis 2 taps about everything that the PS3 has got.

one thing you have to remember about consoles is they have very limited amounts of memory. the PS3 only has 256MB of video ram and this is a very very limiting issue for high rez textures needed for games to look even ok at full 1080p. i feel that this is the main reason that we will see very few true 1080p games with any real depth. the ps3 really does have quite a bit of cpu power but the limited amount of memory is going to be the main factor as we move along.

But doesn't Crysis look unbelievable in Very High? ![]() ![]() My laptop almost had a heart attack trying to play that video. IMO though the PS3 version looks better than the 360 version. Killzone 2 didn't have to render as much colors or draw distance. Last edited by Seeking_Alpha; 06-17-2009 at 09:43 PM. |

On the case of the memory i concur with Shin-Ra & the 256mb operates at rare high speed of 3.2ghz from what i read which should compensate for the difference in size |

Hope this link works, this guy is awesome. I watch him weekly. He is relentless on ripping on the 360. This came to mind when I saw this thread. ![]() |

Then we may get Crysis (#1) able to play in all it's max settings @ 1080p we have to remember that the 1080p standard is now going to be here for many years to come & possibly for another two generations so unlike the PC version which goes to 2500x1600 atm with possibly better graphics we may still get very good results if the consoles are coded efficiently right Theres drawbacks to both but i think developers like to work with fixed hardware as it allows them to easily make games that try to get every ounce of power from it but also like high end PC as the results are spectacular but drawbacks are there for both with consoles having restricted hardware set up in terms of power as newer components for PC release but PCs drawbacks are they suck some resources via operating systems I prefer simplicity over bugs & compatibility problems anyday hence my preference to consoles but if i only played new games on a high end PC hooked via HDMI on my TV i think i would prefer it But theres no way i can believe they've maxxed PS3 with most efficient coding & playing Killzone to just reminded me how high the bar is set now graphically for Crysis 2 to actually outdo to prove their claim |

Sony said Factor 5 had the best understanding of how to use the PS3. Factor 5 believed they were only close to around 50% of it's power while streaming to both pools of memory. Lair was 1600x1080p. The dragon with rider was 150K polys. A level was 134 million polys. They had a couple thousand soldiers and hundreds of dragons with A.I. They had fluid dynamics going as well as discrete 7.1 LPCM audio (all within two pools of 256MB of RAM). Back then much LESS RAM was actually available to the developers (like around 40MB less than now). Yep. That 512MB total RAM is enough for a LOT of things WITH a good streaming engine in place. ![]() |
