That depends... will Hossa disappear for the Hawks too?

Finally something to smile about. Cammalleri to the habs for 5 years. I just need Tanguay, Kovy, 1 right handed defenseman and i'm happy.

Well for the first time in FOREVER. Gainey actually attracts and signs 4 players on July 1st. I like the Gionta and Gomez now. Cammaleri is very nice. Spacek brings veteran leadership and Hal Gill is just a huge monster. Maybe would be a good mentor for Ryan O'byrne.

im glad we picked up knuble. seems like a a good scrapper who likes to play in front of the net and get physical. we did lack some physicality at times during the playoffs and this should help. i wish we would have picked up a vet d man though like gill or ohlund. cant get everything i guess. these young d prospects need to get it together though for us to get to the cup this year.

Lost Havlat and gained Hossa. I have mixed feelings on this. Going to miss Havlat but not all his injuries. I like Hossa's numbers and toughness, but hear he's selfish. I hope he can get along with everyone.

I'm a little worried about depending on Huet now as a #1.

I am not a fan of the Habs but Bob Gainey made some good acquisitions.

Now i think Gainey is finished spending but he also said he would like a D .

People still complaining, no quebecers!

Gainey doesn't do anything, people complain
Gainey does something, people complain

I wonder if all the Hawks fans who talked smack about Hossa last year will be #1 fans of his now.
Is he thinking that Chicago will have a chance at the cup this year?

They're young, hungry, and a more experienced then last year. I'd say they have an outside chance at the cup. Hossa was great in the regular season the past 2 years, not so much in the playoffs for both the pens and the wings. That'll hold them back again I think.

Actually, likely going up against Detroit again in the playoffs will hold them back again.

Didn't Detroit just loose Hossa, Conklin, Chelios, and another? Who did they gain?

Two of the guys you mentioned are a back-up (at best) goalie and a 47 year old defenseman. Not much of a loss.

Hossa is a loss, but his lack of playoff production takes the sting out of him leaving.

Free agency just started yesterday, but I don't think they have signed anyone yet.

Hossa is a great player and we will miss his regular season scoring... but 12 years is too long of a contract... im still surprised we offered him 10...

Sammy is gone as well... his agent said other teams offered more $$
Hossa... the big loss
Conklin... a back-up goalie who will fight for the #1 job in St. Louis, we have Howard backing up Osgood
Chelios... 47 yrs old... needs to retire

Leino, Helm, and Ericsson will all be on the team full time this year... Helm and Ericsson were awesome in the playoffs and Leino will score some goals...

Hudler will probably resign w/ us as well...
i would like to see us sign another FWD tho... maybe Kovalev to play w/ Datsyuk or Koivu to play w/ Filppula...

Hossa will probably retire in 6-7 years anyways. I also herd his contract is front loaded. He'll make more in the begining and less towards the end. That should make ot easier to trade him or buy out his contract if needed. Lets hope we don't need to.

i like the habs signings and the new makeup of the club, this team needed to change its look mind you they have gotten smaller but more skilled. komisarek is a loss but offensively its a plus with spacek and i cant wait to see the powerplay now damn its going to be sick, im thinking a kovalev signing and this club is looking pretty sweet and silversnake there is no mentor for o'byrne that has been born yet that guy is horrid i would trade him for a puckbag and a roll of tape.

To be frank, i'm going on record now saying i dont like the Hossa signing. We had a true sniper in Havlat and let him walk. He has half of the contract we just inked Hossa to. I have a strong feeling the Hossa deal could end up costing the Hawks one of their young guns, ie Toews/Kane/Keith. If thats the case, this was the worst signing ever!

I do like what Hossa brings to the table, but im not 100% sure he puts the teams goals in front of his own. He's shown that with his willingness to dump teams after 1 year of service and go for whoever he thinks has the best chance of winning the cup. Is he going to demand a trade if the Hawks dont meet expectations? I dont like it.

I do however like the signing of Madden.

Not to talk trash or anything, but i think Montreal took on alot of bad contracts this offseason. Mainly Gomez. You are right though, they DEFINATELY have a new look to them. I wish them well, they're the only Canadian team that i don't hate with a passion!
