Typically when Sony releases a gen 1 ES video product, they come up with a completely new model number that is unrelated to current ones.

example: DVPS9000ES was the gen 1 SACD/DVD player in the ES line.
(as you see they also tie the "ES" into the model number also)

DVPS7000ES was their first DVD player....etc

So if you know for a fact that is the model number, I doubt it will be an ES piece.

I think a Sony ES Series player must play SACD. I'm not buying a reference disc player which doesn't support SACD playback.

Cheers!
As an SACD enthusiast myself, I think it would be great if they were to offer such a player, but with SACD media being dead in B&M retailers and the only place to really buy discs are online it seems to me that it's wouldn't be a huge priority for Sony going foward IMO...could be a very long wait. Besides with all the HD audio formats getting the kinks worked out I believe that the vast majority of consumers will take to them much faster as they it offers both great PQ and great sound on one disc.

Well, Sony being faithful to SACD hasn't shown off in their 'home AV component' range of BD players yet but it's admirable that they've pushed to let PlayStation3 not only have high-resolution graphics and high-definition video through BD but also high-resolution audio through SACD.

Clearly the engineers behind the console must attribute great importance to picture and sound quality because they've released a number of firmware upgrades that enhance video and audio reproduction, notably different options for SACD decoding and CD upsampling (besides upscaling of SD video to HD etc.)

Have a look at the dedicated SACD FAQ for PS3 at http://www.ps3sacd.com/faq.html

There new receiver line has dropped i.Link. Does Sony have a DVD/SACD player that supports output of 24/192 SACD over HDMI? If not, it seems like the good bet that sony will include SACD support. I'm hoping they put CD in also. All my CDs are lossless encoded (thanks apple!) and on a NAS feeding my AppleTV.

So as it turns out, the BDP-S500 is not an ES series model and does not support SACD. See the IFA 2007 coverage everywhere.

BTW, wasn't the BDP-S300 introduced ages ago (at CES 2007)? I guess that was for North America, while Europe had to make do with the BDP-SE1.

Now (bearing in mind that apparently North America gets these toys a few months ahead of the Old World) let's see what Sony has up its sleeve at CEDIA (and CEATEC).

The new Samsung (not the combo) and the Pioneer LX70a can do DTS-HD MA and DTS-HD as bit stream. I saw it at the IFA (Samsung was hooked with a Z11 and the LX70A with an Onkyo 875 - displays of both units showed "DTS HD Master")!

Why canīt do it the Sony?

accept multichannel PCM at sampling rates BELOW 192kHz!
...like the Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha... Thatīs ordinary!
The maximum of DTS-HD MA and TrueHD in 7.1/5.1 is at the moment 24Bit/96Khz!! I think you donīt hear a difference between 24/96 and 24/192...
The 24bit resolution is more important.

The S500 is a profile 1.0 player and the BD-P2400 according Samsung too...

Well, here we have the Sony BDP-S2000ES. Frankly to me it doesn't look like an ES component at all but like just a redressed BDP-S500.

http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/av/do...0906/sony2.htm

There's supposed to be an article here too but apparently that got removed. Not sure why. CEDIA has already started.

http://news.sel.sony.com/en/press_ro...ase/31276.html

Still: no Super Audio CD playback!

Sony's new 500-disc BD/DVD/CD changer or home server (HES-V1000) doesn't support SACD either. It looks like Sony Computer Entertainment may be more dedicated to SACD than Sony's Home AV division...

I really don't see what the problem is the the CE companies. No one is going to adopt Blu-ray with prices this high and no support for these additional features. Just my honest opinion...

And here we have Sony at their annual Dealer Convention announcing their new range of BD Recorders (BDZ-X90, BDZ-L70, BDZ-T70, BDZ-T50), apparently sharing something with the build of their latest BD Players.

Hardly surprising, no mention of SACD. Heck, I don't even spot SVCD or VCD here.
