The Man, would you kindly list what your display mode and settings are?
Despite what you "think" looks good, there is a possibility you are overdoing it. Contrast and Brightness are one of the biggest factors to IR. If you have them set too high, this will cause excessive IR. In which case you can only blame yourself. |

I use.. Picture at 65 and brightness at 52. I game every day for at least a couple hours. Haven't noticed any IR in anything but a no signal screen. And it fades away after a few minutes of regular tv viewing. ![]() Can you describe how bad your IR problem is? Is it visible while watching a program? How long does it last? You shouldn't be having any major problems with the settings you posted, make sure the anti image retention pixel orbiter is on. Last edited by Kryptron; 07-18-2009 at 02:09 AM. |

I think a lot of people would be surprised to learn that the human eye itself usually suffers from worse IR than any modern display... especially if you've been drinking.

I bought my Hitach 50' plasma display back in December and I only had one instance of IR happening, but it disappeared very quick. I also make sure when there are black bars that I expand the screen fully. Add to that I watch shows that usually display their logos for the entire duration of the show, and I still do not see any hint of IR present, even after long periods of being displayed. Gotta say I am very pleased with my Hitachi.

I think it just depends on what you're watching. For general TV usage, 2 or 3 should be fine, but for something like games or letterboxed DVD/BD's where you know there's going to be something stationary, put it on 1. At least that's what I do. Either way, you'll get IR, but the orbiter will alleviate how long it takes to get rid of the IR. |

LouHamilton wrote that you have not checked how many hours on your set. Is there an 'hour meter' in the menus somewhere?

Well I just noticed some IR on my Panny today... I spent about 3 hours watching Food.TV last night (Hell's Kitchen reruns) and today, I could see the "food" logo in the bottom right corner... faint but there. I ran the white bar a few times and still there. I bouth this screen in Nov. 2008.
Besides the white bar, is there anything else we can do to improve this ? in all honesty, this pisses me off a little. Being that I also heard that the new Panny's don't have this issue... i guess this prooves that wrong! |

*Your results may vary*. I have a new panny and haven't noticed any IR on anything but a black/no signal screen and it was very faint. After watching regular full screen content for a couple minutes i can go back and there is no trace of it. Again I've never seen even a hint of IR in anything but a no signal/black screen and it was very very faint. Last edited by Kryptron; 07-27-2009 at 02:27 AM. |

This whole issue is so funny because it always seems so different for different people. Yesterday my 16-year-old nephew had 13 friends over and they played Madden NCAA football on on xbox connected to my Panasonic TH-65PZ850U for over four and half hours and there is not one trace of IR of burn-in. glad this great display seems to have passed the test but who knows about the future.
