Wow. If it sucked, what would you say about Ang Lee's Hulk.

The Incredible Hulk is not only awesome, fantastic and its blu-ray is reference-quality. Talking about it, I am going to watch it now.

I would have agreed with that had all those movies come out in one summer

As much as I hate when we big up newer stuff it has to be 2008.

Iron Man
Indy 4 (lackluster, but still fun)
Incredible Hulk (no it definitely doesn't suck)
Get Smart
Wall-E
Hellboy 2
The Dark Knight
Tropic Thunder

Those are 8 entertaining movies and that's why 2008 gets my vote.

Not that all these films are classics, but the sheer number of franchise films and others that have become classics is staggering.
Hot damn!

Now that's what I'm talking about!

I'm in the boat with those who think 2008 was a real golden year for film... what an awesome summer, and I went out to see almost all of them.

1977 without a doubt. All it took was one film and it trumps all yours!

How could anyone say The Incredible Hulk sucked! I watched it again yesterday just to see if I was wrong and I was blinded by the sheer awesomeness! It has arguably some of the best action scenes ever, a solid story, Edward freakin' Norton, and stellar PQ and AQ. The only thing that tainted was the "abomination" original release in 2003.

Also, 1994 was an awesome year. The Fugitive, The Crow, Forrest Gump, Dumb and Dumber, Pulp Fiction, Speed, and True Lies.

Also 1982.

I was listening to 98 Rock about 5 minutes ago (local radio station) and the DJ was arguing that 1984 was the best year for movies.

Summer of 1989 gets my vote. Absolutely legendary.

That said, Summer of '08 was indeed very sweet indeed - But 1989's lineup was just jaw dropping.

In terms of quality, '82 still beats all other summers.

2008 was the best year for summer movies and the best year for movies period IMO. It was really cool starting the year with the sleeper hit In Bruges. The spring/ early summer movies were just awesome (starting with Iron Man). From there the movies were consistently good and then we peaked with the amazing The Dark Knight. The hits continued in the fall and holiday season with The Wrestler, Bolt, The Reader, and Slumdog Millionaire to name a few.

This year by comparison has been a little disappointing so far. I hope for a strong August starting with Funny People. So far the smash hits have been Star Trek, Up!, Hangover, and Harry Potter. I guess that's not too bad.
