I would invest in foreign movies on blu-ray, unless of course they are movies that you have to have and they are not available yet in the blu-ray format.

Yeah, I don't think Meat Grinder or Bangkok Haunted will be out on Blu-ray anytime soon.

If the $300 is all for spending and not saving then:

Pick you up something like a Sony BDP-S360 for under $200

And use the rest to get you some foreign dvds that you really want

Sounds like a good compromise to me

Would a Blu-ray player look good with RCA cords since my HDTV doesn't have an HDMI input?

that wouldnt do HD. You would need to use component cables. Does you tv have component or dvi?

Well Component cable's are called RCA connections too I believe.

So Orlando, do you mean Composite or Component?

If your tv accepts component (which doesn't nearly every tv do that? Unless its older I guess) it will look fine. Component will give you up to 1080i (I think they can do 1080p but as far as I know most things don't accept 1080p from component, but of course, I'm no expert).

My HDTV has the RCA imputs (output for audio), a computer input, and oddly a USB input.

Does it have a three cord input for video, or just one yellow cord input for video?

Component can do 1080p, but HDCP may be an issue.

Yes, RCA is the yellow for video, white and red for audio. It has an audio (white and red) output too.

I didn't buy the TV, it was a present from my parents. It's a SANSUI. I believe it might be 720p, but I'm not sure.

If you don't have one, or you need another one, then a Blu-ray Player.

That would make it $200 more, Plus the $10 trading fee

Edit: I see what you did.

Unless you've got component (RED GREEN BLUE) or DVI or HDMI, you aren't getting 720p.

Sorry bud. That tv could be bunk.

Indeed. I would put my vote down for, put the $300 towards a new tv or projector (you can pick up fairly descent 720p projectors for $650. I'd be inclined to save for something like that and trully experience some HD action.
