It would mean they doubled. If they were selling at the rate of 100/week before, now they're selling 200/week. Numbers purely fictional of course.

Thanks... thought it seemed more like Blu-ray player sales have more than doubled.

4.48 millions is the total worldwide sales up to 6/30, before the price cut. U.S. sales after the price cut jumped 135%. The July sales number should be very interesting to watch.

Yup, you can bet your ass M$ counts all those warranty replacements as sales.

PS3 launched first in Japan and HK. Then SG. Then Korea. All of these PS3s are Region As but the Japanese one is different in that for DVD it's Region 2 NTSC.

If you happened to come to any of the SEA countries, most of the PS3s come from either HK or SG. I have not seen the Korean versions 'cuz that's 80GB.

If you sold 100 units last year, and this yearit went up 100%, that would = 200 units sold

If it went up 50%
Total sold would be 150

If it went up 20%

Total sold would be 120.

Does it make sense yet?

thanks for posting those two. I was thinking of providing the exact same chart.

When I show it to MS fans (hard to believe but some do exist) they shut up quite quickly about how slow the PS3 is selling/how fast the 360 is selling.

I know that it is selling in HK, Singapore and India. I have no contacts in China etc. but it seems reasonable that most countries would have some PS3 presence if India does cos it took absolute ages for the 360 to reach retail in India.

Unless SCEA market research shows way stronger demand in India for the PS3 compared to the 360, which is plausible...

I did some research (aka googling).

So, it appears that Sony sold 3.57 M by end of March 07. From Apr-Jun 07, they sold 710K.

This adds up to 4.28M, not 4.48M. Which is still good, but I am wondering where the mistake is. Perhaps it is 910K, not 710K.

Given the E3 show and discount starting from July 9, it looks good. We need some confirmation though of Q1 nos.

EDIT: Check http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/fina.../07q1_sony.pdf

Sales are definitely 710K for Q1 2007. Shipments for FY2006 were 5.5M, as well known. Where did the 3.57M no. come from? I don't see it on the investor forums either.

Check http://www.sony.net/SonyInfo/IR/fina...07q1_eleki.pdf

Sony have restated their financials from 2006 to show actual sales (to retail) of PS3 instead of just shipments of PS3 (which were 5.5M in FY 2006).

Q3 FY 2006 sales: 1.66M

Q4 FY 2006 sales: 1.91M
Thus, actual FY 2006 sales are 3.57M.

Therefore, total comes to 4.28M by end of June 2007.

Default Tracking effects of Price-cut

Over the last 3 weeks (since E3 basically), PS3 weekly sales have been 90K, 83K and 109K. Comparing to the 3 weeks before E3, the weekly sales were 54K, 57K and 60K. Unofficial sales to consumer are now at 4M, give or take.

Btw, PS3 is back up at #1 at amazon.

This is a chart that makes my heart glad: http://vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons...3=All&weekly=1

Check out the spike in the red line at the end... hope it sustains at the new level. Bring on the new games!

They can say the PS3 numbers don't mean anything...but it doesn't matter, the BD sales speak for themselves!

Yes they do. My PS3 is my primary player. I own only 2 games so far, but have 59 Blu ray movies.

I have 3 BD games (Ridge Racer 7, Resistance, and Motorstorm) and about 4 DL games (Gripshift, Tekken 5, Calling All Cars, GTHD)... 51 BD (and rising every week)---the HD-DVD Promotional Group is a bunch of foul smelling hamsters to discount the PS3 as a tru-blu and viable BD player... not counting is a bunch of crock.

There is another price cut comming, bet me on it. Sony has always cut the price after about the first year and they have yet to cut the price (the 60 gig to 499 doesnt count, not price drop, just a little added value) People have always been able to get the 20 gig in the US at 499 even though they are hard to find. I think gamestop online still has them for sale.

http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=020071

Yup, so anyway expect a 399 ps3 this holiday... maybe lower.

Are those weekly counts for North America only, or the world?

Worldwide, dude (http://vgchartz.com/weekly.php)

You can use vgchartz to check total by geography etc. too

P.S. The 109K has now changed to ~111K and PS3 has crossed 4M sold to consumers =)
