Define necessary. Just because a film is shot in 3-D doesn't mean it's necessary, it just means it was shot in 3-D. My point, as well as many others, is that imo 3-D doesn't enhance a movie, unless it's one like Avatar. It's true that "a lot of people can be wrong," but there's no right or wrong here--just preference.

Well I don't think we've seen enough of this movie to tell if the 3-D "enhances" the film, so we really can't tell, but if Stephen Soderbergh feels his film needs 3-D, then I'm pretty sure it'll be used to his advantage.

Obviously we haven't seen enough of the movie, but that doesn't matter. Precedent is what matters and so far it's shown me that 3-D detracts from a film and is no more than a gimmick. This is my opinion and I'm certainly not alone in it. If I see the film in theaters, or Inception, I'll do so in 2-D. I have free passes to Toy Story 3 and I'm choosing to see it in 2-D as well.

By definition it is necessary, or the director wouldn't be shooting it that way. Some people do enjoy 3D. If you happen to not be one of them, then it is not necessary that you watch the movie in 3D.

Oh, and YAY FOR 3D!!!

haha your logic is flawed and you misunderstood what I was saying, but it's all good. And I never said that everyone should hate 3D and dislike it like myself, I simply said I don't like it and don't consider it necessary. If you like it, good for you.

haha there is but I don't think I need to point it out and derail the thread. Simply put, if you enjoy 3D, that's all that matters.

Do you use the advanced search option using the thread titles only option?

Practically every film has one of the limited number of plots available. It's what is done with the template that sets films apart.

So excited for this! Kate Winslet is my favorite actress and Gwyneth Paltrow is also another favorite of mine so already sold. Mixed with other great actors and a great director, opening weekend

Not exactly original but it does look interesting. I think this was mentioned several times in early 2012 Best Picture nominees. I like that this took a documentarian approach and I can see it evoking a lot of public reaction.
