there's a lot of fear flying around about warner bros. i was worried for a minute then i remembered that warner is trying to sell everyone their bd/hd combo discs. so i seriously doubt that they will go exclusive to anyone. now universal........i think they could be swayed. if christmas goes as well as it looks like it will i don't think it would even cost $150 million. i think it would cost $200 on the nightstand frank sinatra style.

i'm still all blu. all the way.

screw transformers and top gun. give me spidey

Jeez man, have some dignity!!! If you buy an HDDVD player, you reward M$ for trying to screw consumer and us high def fans out of a great future optical format.

I was a little bummed, it's been a crazy couple of days. I'm over it now. Got my pre-orders in for Cars and the Pixar Short Films set and jumped in on the buy day thread. Will look for some BDs to buy that I wasn't planning on. Hell will freeze over before I buy a hd dvd player.

Paramount is 100% boycotted until at least Memorial Day 08 at which point an exception would have to be made.

Rock on Blu-ray.

I am raising the black flag, versus MS, Toshiba, Paramount and Universal. I will not take prisoners here. Total boycott of everything they own.

Personally, I find Paramount's (and Microsoft's) behavior to be contrary to the interests of the consumer and frankly repugnant. I have no intention of falling prey to these tactics by spending money on HD DVD's and, in fact, will now spend sizable amounts of my disposable income on two new BD players for my kids and each and every title I even faintly think my family might want.
I wasn't happy with the decision either because I was sure that Blu-ray would win this. But now I'm not so sure, so instead of waiting for Universal to come over (and there was a time when I thought for sure they were going neutral) I'm going to sit back and enjoy all the movies I can. This format war is going to go on regardless. Paramount, DreamWorks and Universal has some good titles that I want.

So what? After I saw how incredible BD was I got a PS3, and being spoiled by high def I wanted to see as many of my favorite movies as possible. I refused to buy HD DVD believing that Blu-ray was the clear winner even though the temptation to pick up some HD DVD titles was there. Yesterday's announcement pushed me to scratch the itch, and just because I scratched the itch doesn't make me any less of a Blu-ray fan. I'm renting right now but I'm not going to stop with my plans to purchase quite a few Blu-ray titles in a few months. In fact, unless the HD is better for whatever reason I'm going to always pick up the Blu-ray version of a neutral title (I'd rather watch it with the PS3 than the PC anyway). I like to think of myself as somewhat pragmatic. I'm not going to make trivial posts here of fanboyistic silliness.

You sound defeated. MS doesn't has more money than the population of America...much less the world. The US spends trillions upon trillions of dollars a year. MS piggy bank is less than $20 billion I believe.

Yeah. I'm old enough to remember the great debate between JPEG and GIF supporters. Now that was a funny one, people posting GIF converted to JPEG and vice versa trying to prove their "format" is better.

Sit back and relax guys. Your investment is safe, Sony and Panasonic aren't going to dump you. Buy more Blu-rays.

enjoy

I am more upset at the fact that I love a lot of Paramount movies and will have to wait until the war is over to actually own them because I'm not buying into two formats....yet.

It's not always about money..sometimes it's about commitment, better products and little people spending their money elsewhere. Everytime you spend your dollar on another product like Apple, Linux, etc..it's a double whammy to MS..you bolster the competition (2 point win) and take money out their pocket to wield against you ( 0 points for them). That's actually a 4 point swing if you had went the other way..it starts to add up pretty quickly.

I've been tempted this whole time to buy HD-DVDs, they've got my favorite movie of all time, Lost in Translation, not to mention a bunch of other movies I adore, like Serenity.

All that aside, I'm sitting it out and waiting however long it takes for those to be released on Blu-ray, it'll be much sweeter then, having endured the long, long, LONG wait. I'll never turn tail and use the excuse that I want all my movies now. Wah wah wah. You're just another tiny part of the problem, prolonging this war by supporting HD-DVD.

I can admit that.

You're also right about this: You see HD-DVD zealots clinging on on nothing more than delusions and scraps for months on end.

So again I look around and I won't name names, but where's the heart? Where's the resolve?

We've got a hell of a lot more to stand on than HD-DVD folks do for their format. It's not even close, even still today!

I'll be damned if I'm going to go back to DVD only or buy into HD-DVD and help MS get what they want and keep this market split.

No way in hell.

Yeah, but it's OUR money! A company has no income if it's customers don't give it to them. I understand that our(BD & HD early adopters) group is small and out side of the group is extremely tiny compared to the number of people who don't know/care that they support MS & it's subsidiaries in so many other ways. And if that is your argument, then I can't say anything to disagree with you because I don't disagree on that point.

But if people knew that they really could make I difference, I would at least hope that the human race is intelligent enough to stop being herded around like cattle and stand firm. But then again gossip is passed off as real news on the real news broadcasts these days, so my hope is just a shred I guess.
