Al Pacino takes on first animated role in 'Despicable Me 2'

While Al Pacino has played his share of iconic live-action villains — from Michael Corleone to Tony Montana — he will make his animated film debut as the voice of the villain in Despicable Me 2, the Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment sequel to the 2010 hit film that launched Chris Meledandri’s family film shingle and grossed $543 million on a $69 million budget.

Pacino’s exact role is being kept under wraps, but he’s the nemesis of Gru, who’ll once again be voiced by Steve Carell. The news comes after Javier Bardem dropped out of the sequel in January, who was initially up for the villain role El Macho. It is not yet clear if Pacino is replacing Bardem. The film will be released by Universal on July 3, 2013.

I love the Minions, the first film, and hope this one is great too. The trailer felt like something was missing though.

LOL. When I said something was missing, I didnt mean INFO, I meant the "magic" or the "vibe". But you are correct, there was about 89 and a half minutes "missing."

Teaser was kinda meh... funny but wasn't much of a "tease". Looking forward to the movie, but we got another year to wait.

I showed the teaser to my kids (aged 9 and 5) and they loved it, got all excited

... then I told them it doesn't come out until next year...

I just watched the first one for like the 10th time, first time in 3d at home though. I can't wait for the next one.

And I also noticed that in the first one the main girl at the start at least is wearing a Lorax shirt. Kind of cool to catch that since it's the same people who did the lorax
