Chances are you bought knock-off HDMI cables. Certified HDMI cables feature the HDMI logo, the knock-off cables don't.

Have you compared Monster to inexpensive cables purchased from somewhere else besides Ebay? And do you know what it is about those Monster cables that create a better image and sound?

actually no I dont go out and buy 100's of cables and sit and go nah not as good ... but from owning 4 HDMI cables from ebay and then buying the U2 V600 cables I noticed vast vast improvement where it would flicker b4 it didnt and audio was much improved. and when hooking up my 3007WFP-HC dell monitor the cheap dvi cables were so bad it wouldnt even boost my monitor to its normal 2560x1600.

From an electrical engineering standpoint, Monster cables are technologically more advanced. You can run numerous tests on Monster cables and generic cables and the Monster cables will more than likely outperform a generic cable. Now these are tests based on the physical medium and how well it transfers the electrical current down the wire and at the same time maintaining it's integrity. So from this standpoint these cables are higher quality.
Now the real question is that are they worth it based on what you can see or hear, not caring about how the damn thing actually works. Right now it's probably hit and miss. But as the standards progress and more and more data gets put on the wire, and more technological advances in the video and audio segments, then the higher quality cables might be worth it. One thing interesting to note is that since no player can bitstream a compressed lossless codec it will be interesting how the different cables perform in sending this over the wire, since there is no way to test the two, and only 1.3 compliant cables can transfer the bitstream correctly without loss. |

The only time I ever bought Monster cables was when I first started working at Best Buy around 8 years ago and I used my employee discount of course to purchase. Well, I saved over 70 percent off from retail their price. That was a pretty good deal I think, but talk about a gigantic markup. Geez!!!!
Anyway, nowadays I wouldn't even look at one of them. I don't care what anyone says about them being more technologically advanced than other brands. I just don't believe it. I've never seen the difference, even after numerous comparisons. |

I like them. I like bose Speakers. I've been using them for a long time.
If you look inside the latest BD movies case you will find some Monster Cables inlet ads. Maybe they are siding with Blu-ray. Last edited by jcdDigix; 08-30-2007 at 05:13 AM. |

I've been running network cables for about 10 years now. The terminology you use does not fit the technology. Your internet connection is 30mbps, not the internal network connection (which is 100mbps). Internet connection speeds are never guaranteed unless you pay through the nose for dedicated bandwidth (like with a T1). Problems in cat5e cables are almost exclusively endplug problems, which are replaceable if they are loose, not wired properly, or not clamped down tight enough. I've run generic network cables over 100ft without any problems. Expensive "higher quality" cables are a rip-off.

With HDMI, anyone can produce an HDMI cable but quality HDMI cables come from companies that have been certified to produce them, I cannot remember who the entity is that does the certification but could find out. A digital signal is a digital signal no matter what cable you send it through. So the $6 Monoprice HDMI is no different than the $150 Monster HDMI. The only real difference, and what I believe you pay for, is Monsters warranty. Now with analog cables, that is where you will see, and hear, your difference between the superior Monster and any other brand. So buy your cheaper HDMI cables, as long as the company is reputable, but when it comes to analog cables go Monster all the way.
