They will not pay more for to long. This is certain. They need to be very precise in regards to the pricing of BD.

PS3 needs to drop to 399 to 449, respectively. on Oct. 1st

Stand alones need to be 249- 349, respectively. on Nov. 1st

Units will move at these prices for NOW. Further price cuts will need to happen in the future.

Case in point PS2--compare dates and pricing in regards to units sold.

Learn this lesson.

Some of the recently released dvd's look really good upconverted on my Blu-ray player. But they're still not Blu-rays. That's pretty evident.

I agree that "threat" is an extremely poor word. Virtually everone thats bought into HDM will not go back to dvd. And slowly but surely more and more people are buying into HDM, and of course the rate will increase once HDDVD dies off.

Will blu-ray kill off dvd in a few years? Probably not, but it will be at a big enough level that we will see a great amount of titles.

HDM will not die off, since theres far too much money to be made by studios and CE companies. Theres no money to be made in DVD by CE companies, and thats why they support bluray (and also why they dont support hddvd, theres no profits for them in that either). Same with studios, they make probably $5-15 more per BR than DVD, and they're hoping that they'll see a decline in piracy with BD+.
