hard drive heat wouldn't be something to worry about

How fast should the new HD be? 1.5g/s or 3.0g/s?

Not true, there is no 205GB limit. You didn't get the whole 250GB available on your drive, because the file system takes up space after formatting occurs. This is true with ANY hard drive.

There are plenty of people who have connected 3.5 500GB drives via sata cables in external enclosures to PS3s and have had no problems with getting the PS3 OS to recognize them correctly.

I just went with a 500Gb external drive since my music collection would in no way fit on any 2.5 drives. Works flawless for less money. Just wish the PS3 had USB ports on the back of the system.

I don't know what hdd you are using, I have a western digital 250gb scorpio and under settings after partitioning and formatting my hdd yielded 232gb of free space maybe my PS3 60gb was different than yours. also this hdd is quiet, I aslo run 2 external western digital hdd's the first one is a 1tb wd and the other is a 500gb wd I personally have never had any reliability issues with wd hdd and don't put any hdd rated above 5400 rpm it's just to much heat.

I know thats what I'm saying all that extra space is crazy. I have a pretty big music collection of about 80% of the songs i like thats takes up about 5 or 6 gb's on my computer. I plan to transfer that to my ps3 and still have a ton of space left over. I will probably never fill the harddrive.
