Default PS3 Hard Drive Upgrade Problem

In the process of upgrading the hard drive the screws stripped. I tried getting the hard drive out anyway and bent the hell out of the drive plate that you use to slide it back into place. I figured oh well i'll just put the hard drive in without the plate. Now when i boot it up i get no picture or anything.

Anyone had this issue, my assumption is the system needs that drive bay in there, when it slides into place it tells the system its good to go. The machine boots fine without any drive in there, it just says no readable drive installed upon boot.

Sounds like your HDD is not sliding back in place properly. I say get it repaired by Sony.

The manual has directions on replacing/upgrading the hard drive so you don't void the warranty on the PS3.

Of course since you damaged it, you will most likely have to pay for shipping costs, the parts, and any labor involved. My thought is the plate could be shipped directly to you from PS3 since if you were able to take it out, it should be a CRU (customer replaceable unit). Of course if you stripped the holes that are inside the PS3 that dont come out,,then you will have to send it in.

Default Thanks

Yeah they told me they'd look at it, I have to send it in without the drive slider. Wonder what they'll say when the ps3 arrives to them without the slider in the bay?

Those screws strip notoriously easy, even using proper screwdrivers. Thats cause Sony screwed them on so damn tight. I had to use mini pliers to loosen mine.
