People said it was fairly easy so I tried it a few months ago. To my surprise, it took more work because I did not know the screws were very cheaply made. One of the screws did not want to come out and it took quite a lot of work to get it out. Other people reported having this problem as well so it just wasn't me. I think they fixed the issue because people no longer have this problems when swapping out their drives.

On the DVR thread I was inspired to think about doing just that. Building a small rig that will fit underneath the PS3 that will use SATA RAID and have a powered USB hub with rear ports.

The SATA RAID has been done before. All you need is a female-to-male eSATA cable to connect the PS3 to the RAID unit.

I purchased my 160 gig drive. From MWAVE.com. For around 85.00 dollars.
it took me several minutes to install. But those screws are a pain were very tight. Does anyone know where to get exact replacement screws. Thanks

Screws are pretty standard. You can take the screw or what's left of it to a hardware store and buy ONE.

Actually they will sell you a handful of one 'cuz they're so cheap.

I'll wait to do this until I may actually need the extra storage space. Right now it would just be a fun little project, but not really needed.

Upgraded mine about 2 weeks ago and it was a piece of cake. It took about 5 mins to take out the old HDD and throw in the new one. although having one of those little computer screw drivers was really handy and my screws came out just fine after hearing about all of the trouble other people were having with them...

I only have 1 question, the PS3's standard hard-drive.

Does it work at 5400rpm, or 7200rpm?

The one included is 5400rpm I believe, I don't know if there's 7200rpm drives that run at near enough the same temperature yet.

Default brand?

What are your opinions, guys on the best brand? I hear Seagate is good but they don't have anything bigger than 160 gig on newegg. Does brand even matter?
