So sad... Is it possible that they will release a new version when the European one will be released ?
Well, it was released for the American market and I can count on one hand the number of Americans that care if the film has a French soundtrack.

If there's a Euro-specific release, I'd bet French would be included.

It's a numbers game.

If they even had a French soundtrack to being with, it should have been included since the space is there.

Whenever I see the title of this thread I want to say "I swear their real!"

Still it is good to know it has PiP that will run on anything and it still looks and sounds great!

The thing is that there WAS a french track on our DVD in Quebec ! The track is existing, the subtitles too... but no trace of it on the Blu-Ray ! I tought that it would be like Cars, only english in the States, and french added in Quebec... but no ! And I don't want to wait for the France version, because I don'T like the Dubbing from France... We have our own !

So I decided, really sadly, to go and buy the DVD version ! Hope there won't be other releases like this one !!!

There are about 20 million people that speak French in America (Region A)
I think they'd care.

Alliance Atlantis distributes New Line titles in Canada, including Hairspray

The lack of French is intentional to protect their territory

EDIT- No canadian Blu-ray, doesn't look like they've done any Blus at all

I have never understood this "fake" picture in picture thing.
How in the hell is it fake picture in picture if it is in fact a picture....within a picture?
You can say is it 1.1 interactivity which would make more sense and then the answer is no.
But if there is a picture.....in a picture.....well you know what I mean.

If a movie shows a scene with a picture hanging on a wall, is that Picture-In-Picture? If you are watching a football game and they put a picture inside the main picture, do you then say that your TV can do PiP?

Of course what people are asking is whether it is using duel decoders. Without that there are some limitations and unfortunately it reduces how useful the extra space of Blu-ray is, in some cases. Fortunately it is a shorter term issue. If the only PiP that Blu-ray could do from here on out was single decoding (hard coded PiP in a single stream) like with Hairspray I would consider that a major disadvantage, but fortunately that isn't the case and Blu-ray players will also be able to decode 2 streams for PiP as we go forward (if the BDA hasn't changed the rules, all newly introduced players from here on out will have to support this).

One very major difference is the disc has to include two entirely separat versions of the movie, one with PIP and one without. The PQ in this movie is horribly soft with bitrates often in the single digits and usually in the low teens, and I assume a large part of the reason for the low bitrates is the decision to include a fake PIP version.

For Peter Bracke to give this 4.5 stars for PQ is further proof he is completely blind and most likely a red shill as well.
