Default Need some help with real vs fake

Okie so heres the situation. I sold this guy an original copy of my 300 on blu-ray. A week later he calls me and complains that it is not legitimate and is FAKE KNOCKOFF. Now that boils my blood because I personally purchase this blu-ray disc directly from amazon. Hes telling me some BS about the graphics not being on par with the version he rented or something like that and the graphic on the disc itself is kind of faded compare to the one he rented at blockbuster.

Lastly, he told me that every authentic blu-ray movie should have a code on the back of the disc where the player reads (the scratch resistant coating side). The code should start something like BVS-(numbers). Is that true? I am looking at my copy of 300 that I personally purchased from Best buy and it does not have this code he was talking about.

Heres the problem, he said the version he rented from blockbuster had it, but the disc I sold him did not have that code and every blu-ray disc should have it. Well I looked at my copy and it did not have that code. If anyone knows more about this, can you please chime in because I am really PO and confused.

Sounds like you're dealing with a nutball. tell him that instead of trying to prove to this guy the unprovable.

I see netflix movies with their own logo on the discs a lot of the time. Maybe what he saw was something that blockbuster had ordered special for their discs?

Well if whatever he said is true. Then that means amazon themself is selling bootlegs? This is absurb. I dont thinik Amazon would jeaporadize a lawsuit over a blu-ray movie. This is dumb and i feel dumb for even researching about this. I sent him a seal copy and unless amazon is selling fakes and he can actually prove it, I will come and #($@slap amazon.

Every business learns at some point that a small % of customers turn out to be nutjobs or crazy and are very hard to deal with. Have him give you the disc back and refund his money. You'll find out then if the disc is a "bootleg". Maybe he is confusing Blu-ray with dvd and trying to play it in his dvd player.

He is a "nutbar," but their are "Blu-ray bootlegs." They're just overcompressed on DVD9 discs.

A bluray bootleg would cost more than the real thing to make.
I paid $10 after a BOGO for my copy of 300.
Tell me where you can find a cheaper blank BD-R!

True, but this nutjob's Blu player should be able to tell him if the disk is a Blu or DVD.

Sure it would. But I think (I've seen bootlegs but never picked one up so I'm guessing here) that the bootlegs are formatted as AVC HD discs... which wouldn't show up as DVD on a player. They wouldn't show up as BD or BD-ROM either, but to someone who likely thinks that the intentional grain of "300" means that they have a bootleg, I doubt they'd even know to look.

Sounds like the easiest thing to do would be to have him send you the disc back and refund his money. Otherwise, you're getting all worked up and it's not worth it. As someone else said, there are just customers that you don't want to deal with and this one sounds like one of those.

You guys are probably right. I think the best thing for me is have him return it and give his money back. I just hate how AH)#@*$ get their way. Now I have an open copy. Oh wells, I talked to him on the phone and really wanted to cuss him out for his lack of intelligence.

this guy sounds like an idiot. He probably doesn't want it anymore and made up some BS story about it being a copy. I would lay down the facts and tell him that it's not even feasible to make a copy. Some people are just idiots.

Personally, I would just email the guy a link to this thread where everyone said he was an idiot and has no clue what he's talking about.

Ive bought stuff from Amazon and it turned out to be a bootlegged DVD though... It depends on the merchant unless it was ship direct from Amazon. It was a copy of Galaxy Quest on DVD a few years back FYI, I couldnt find it in my local stores so I bought it from a vendor 'used'. It looked almost legit except you can tell the disc was not imprinted but this guy did a really good job on the photoshop was I able to tell the difference. I notified Amazon and sent them a photo. I shipped it back to vendor and I got my money back. Never saw the vendor's name again. But I never heard of a BD bootleg yet.

I bought it directly from amazon which I believe was shipped from Warner Bros warehouse. I dont think they're selling bootlegs of their own movie :X

Edit: I wanted to add this for extra humor. The guy said over the phone that he did extensive research over this problem and dug up some info that many people are selling bootlegs/knockoff of blu-rays. I was scratching my head when this guy had told me this. I was like ???! Okie sure buddy.
