So what's the latest on the Sammy and the NR chip? When is the firmware supposed to go out to fix the NR softening issue?

Anyone here try the 10/26 firmware update? I'm going to try it tonight. All reports seem to indicate that the NR chip has been turned down in this one. Can't wait to see.

Thats what everyone appears to be seeing.... I agree, movies seem to look slightly sharper. It could all be in my head though. Before you do it, refresh yourself with a movie.... preferbly an older one that you felt was soft before. Than install it... watch it again and report back!!!

Correct, upconversion is only through HDMI.
IMO you'd be better off getting a $117 sony upconvert as the BDP-1000 seems to "stair step" red and isn't a very good upconvert. Plays BD's fantastic, SDDVD's are only so-so. That and I personally don't want to wear out my BD drive playing back SD DVD's. But hey, thas just me. Aside from that, the Sammy is a fantastic BD player. compared to my current DVD player, this is going to be fantastic. i think i'll be able to live with it for a short time at least. i had been planning on going component from the player to t.v. (already have the cables) but i guess this changes that plan. oh well

hey kids, well the sammy FINALLY arrived. i think a string of snails shipped it. anyway, i'm watching 8 below as we speak with the firmware update. watching on the sony KD-34XBR970. all i have to say is wow. connected using the 5.1 outs and uncompressed sound. i have a siberian and she was going nuts with all the noise. i actually had to put her out.
i can't tell you for any reason why people bashed this thing, but it is great. |

I was wondering if anyone had a firmware CD sent to them from Samsung? I have had problems trying to download the firmware and I cant figure out what I'm doing wrong,I followed the online instructions and then I put it on to a blank CD rom,but then when I popped it into the player nothing happens. After a few trys,I decided to call Samsung and this was back in the end of Oct and the guy I spoke to on the phone said they would get the CD sent right out to me,well here it is the end of December and I never received a firmware CD from Samsung.I still have it under warranty from Best Buy and I thought those guys could help me,brought it the store I bought it from, and they told me they themselves was waiting for the firmware tool kits from Samsung, they told me when they receive them, they they will call me.Well anyway I came home and called Samsung again and the lady I spoke too told me to try downloading it again.Well I tryed again and I still cant get it to work.I realy like to have the firmware. And now theres the problem with these new Blu-Ray discs that cant even play on the Samsung without the firmware such as LXG,and I cant even get Pearl Harbor to work on my Samsung. This is realy buging me.

Today I returned my Samsung to Best Buy and got a PS3. Hands down, the PS3 kicks the Samsungs butt. The picture is much better and load time is a 1/4 of the Sammy. I never thought I would see a game system better a stand alone, but it has here. I got the update disc from Circuit City (loan) to update my Samsung even though I bought (and returned) it at Best But. Good luck. |

Yes I think the picture quality is mutch better on the PS3.Even on my ED projector I see an improvement in picture.I'm hopeing sometime in 2007 to get a 1080p display.

I'm using a 70" Sony XBR at only 1080i and almost bought a new 1080p, but I just don't think the 1080i to p will make that much of a difference. It seems like player to player makes a big difference in PQ.

I have a 32" LCD Samsung TV,and Infocus 4805 projector and they both have very nice picture.I have a 92" Widscreen projection screen that I use with my Infocus.Of course the 4805 is not a true HD display but I still think HD DVD and Blu-ray look for very nice on it.Yeah I now I see theres a couple of 720p projectors out in stores now below $1,000 that is very tempting.

The problem is that some devices only play BDAV and not BDMV if the support is a BD-RE or a BD-R.
BDAV= format for home made HD videos BDMV= format for pre-recorded HD film The Samsung BD-P1000 & the Panasonic BD-10 CAN play BDMV (so the ripped film) with menu & everything, I do all the test and I can confirm it. The PS3 can't player BDMV, and is not for incompatibility but it's a Sony decision. They can unlock this when the want, like Samsung. Samsung BD-P1000: first firmware plays BDMV. 1.1 & 1.2 don't play BDMV. And now the latest play BDMV. It's a politic reason. |

There isn't much discussion about this player, I guess everybody is waiting on the BD-P1200 and this player doesn't stack up well against all other players currently available. I am happy with mine for the brief period I have owned it but find the reports it doesn't play some discs troubling and I sure hope Samsung addresses the specific titles that don't play with future firmware updates.
