I think correct terms are:

MB/s = MegaBytes/s
Mb/s = Megabits/s
KB/s = KiloBytes/s
Kb/s = Kilobits/s

So, in my previos post my connection speed is:

39,595 Kb (Kilobits/s) or
39.6 Mb (Megabits/s)

Well to be techical.... cuz I am a technician ya know...

k=kilo
M=mega
m=milli
b=bits
B=bytes


8 bits to the byte
8kb != 1kB

Internet speeds and transfer rates are always expressed in terms of bits.

Generally disconnects with otherwise good speeds mean 1 of 2 things.

1. Impulse noise- either improper filtering or iterference from a device.
2. Marginal sync at signal threshold.

If you look at your modem stats from the ONI ad compared them to your internal stats it could eliminate or prove option 2 and eliminate a lot of possibilities for option 1.

But DSL is engineered not to have frequent disconnects and speed fluctuations. It's a pretty good design for stable ptp communications.

I think a lot of people confuse the two (megabits(Mb)/megabytes(MB)). But here in the U.S., broadband is pretty much always measured in Mb/s (megabits).

Yes, that's right.
When you download file using your browser, that's when browser shows download speed in MB (MegaBytes).

Actual data volume is measured in bytes. So HDD ysage and dowloads show up as bytes. speed is almost always expressed in bits.
