Use a CD-R, that is all that is needed. I updated 2 machines with the 1 disk. Mine and my father-in-law's.

How do you figure out what firmware level you have? I went into setup and there was no option for displaying firmware level.
Thanks. UPDATE this works: Just found the info. # Check the player firmware version: * Power on the television and make sure it is tuned to the inputs to which the BDP-S300 player is connected. * Power on the BDP-S300 Blu-ray Disc player. * If the player starts to play a disc, press the "STOP" button and wait until the blue Sony Blu-ray Disc screen is displayed on the television before proceeding. * On the remote control, press the SYSTEM MENU button. * At the "System Menu" screen, use the arrow keys on the remote control to highlight "Setup" and then press the ENTER button. * At the "Setup" screen, use the arrow keys on the remote control to highlight "Video Setup" and then press the ENTER button. * Use the arrow keys on the remote control to highlight "TV Type" and then press the ENTER button. * On the remote control, press "BLUE" button. * The firmware version currently installed on the BDP-S300 will be listed on the television screen. If the version number is 3.70, your Blu-ray disc player is correctly updated. Last edited by dingdongdaddy; 03-03-2008 at 03:10 AM. |

Hi guys,
I have the BDP-S300 and the firmware is version 2.0. I called Sony and they're going to send me a 3.7 firmware update disc. I would have burned the update on a disc but I don't have a DVD burner. Anyway, my question is, do you think I'll have any problems updating the player? The reason I ask is because it seems like quite a leap from a version 2.0 to a version 3.7. I'm just wondering if the player will be able to handle it. Maybe I'm worried for no reason? Thanks for any help, Mike |

Thanks guys
![]() I appreciate the feedback. I'm sure it will work well. I ordered it late last week so hopefully it will arrive late this week so I can update it before No Country for Old Men comes out. I bought Live Free or Die Hard back in November and it wouldn't play on my player so that's what urged me to order an update. They ended up sending me an update for an S100 not my S300 so it was worthless. Now they're, hopefully, sending me a correct one. Thanks again, Mike |

3.80 firmware a hit and a miss. Meaning, some BD-J discs load faster, and some take LONGER.
Timing starts from the moment the tray clips shut, to the moment of first screen image. Format is: Title / 3.70 load time / 3.80 load time ====================================== Power on / 44 sec / 44 sec 0 Difference POTC 1 / 1:40 / 1:36 -04 sec. POTC 2 / 1:12 / 1:31 +19 sec POTC 3 / 1:18 / 1:03 -15 sec Spiderman1 / 1:35 / 1:16 -19 sec Spiderman2 / 1:13 / 1:15 -02 sec Spiderman3 / 1:24 / 1:22 -02 sec Fan. Four / 0:23 (non BD-j) / 0:23 0 difference Fan Four Rise / 1:18 / 2:03 +45 sec Am I the only one experiencing this? |

I did the same thing, followed all of the directions. The player read. DL OK. It ejected the disc, and then froze up on me. This was with the 3.8 version. I got a new player, and put the 3.7 on there because I knew it worked. Wouldn't you know it, it froze up. I couldn't do anything.

Now I can finally watch Live Free or Die Hard in high def and I'm all set for No Country for Old Men on Tuesday ![]() I'm sorry about your issues and I appreciate the warning. The woman I talked to on the phone from Sony was kinda weird so I'm not surprised they weren't much help. Keep us updated on how your player is working. Mike |

Anybody playing BDMV BD-R discs in the BDP-S300? The description on the first page says BDMV is supported, but the player's description at Sony.com says it's not.

BD-R/RW was supported via firmware about version 3.20, I believe. Not likely to see it on their web page.
