Player (singular). And it is really a rebadge of the A3 Alco is making for Toshiba.

So, even with a just-make-this design, all that Alco can manage to line up is an obscure (even here) Ontario company.

Where I come from, that's a j*rk*ff.

Seriously, these people need to get a life. There is something inherently wrong with these people where they have a deep need to be/feel "important". They use the internet to this end, but posting nothing more than rubbish. I'm no psychologist, but to me it says that something else is lacking in their lives...

Yeah, why do you think they never produced them...
for the same two obvious reasons hat no one else did. It was obvious from the get go HD DVD was not going anywhere and who would want to release a product that would retail below their production cost.

Well, them and JVC (who are finally lining up a production partner for their Blu-ray player, with a couple of improvements, they showed at CEDIA and IFA).

NEC are pretty high profile in the Japanese recorder market, and they haven't released anything for HD DVD (bar one drive used in the A1) despite their "commitments" to HD DVD. NEC have been actively looking at making a BD-RE drive outside of the Optiarc agreement with Sony, which should show how much headway Blu-ray has made in Japan over the last three years.

Yep. I do think Kosty is a partner of Drunken Tivo Dealer. They have contacts, like Directv installers who hear things from their UPS deliverymen. They so desire to be seen as "insiders" they will say anything in hopes of being right, once. Drunken Tivo Dealer said a studio was going to go exclusive within days of the Paramount bribe. Didn't happen.

Can't wait for things for HD DVD to go pear shaped in 2008 and see Kosty's face. Probably will be the face like a smacked arse.

One thing I can't figure out about him (and a few others that we all know and hate) is how in the hell do they keep track of all their lies they tell? Must have a spreadsheet on their computer that they can reference.

I always wondered what happened with NEC - I recall them being very strong for AOD and then as you note nothing after the A1 drive. They never even released it as a PC drive which iirc was their main drive. Perhaps they discovered the writable HD DVD is not viable...

Basically they haven't had any 'help' from Toshiba for making the A1. In fact Toshiba are refusing to give NEC anything above cost price for the drive in the A1 and no reimbursement for R&D they were promised for making the A1 drive.

Toshiba isn't the most trustworthy of companies these days...

He's been saying Disney was going neutral since April 2006.

They only shipped one? Who bought it, Amir? Seriously though, I wasn't referring to # of models. I'm also aware, thanks to Doby's pictures, that the Alco player is the same as the A3!!

But wait, there's more. There's 12 different chinese HD DVD models coming in 2008 for $99, and they all include 20 movies in the box, plus 10 more if you order online. BD is in trouble now... But wait, there's more. Order in the next 15 minutes, and Toshiba will double your order at no extra charge. That's right, 2 players and 60 movies for $99. But wait, if you call in the next five minutes, we'll throw in free shipping and TWO, yes TWO, 3m HDMI cables too. Hurry, before they're all gone.

Man, I hope that M$ is paying Kosty/Rdjam VERY well, because the crap that comes out of their mouth is just so utterly ridiculous that I actually read it for a laugh.

You know, it's funny that ANY manufacturers still have any interest in dual-format players. They WILL NOT sell very well, and you would think Samsung, LG, and/or Sanyo can see that this war's end is not too far down the road. Why make a bunch of expensive dual-format players if no one's going to buy them?

After CES as certain Microsoft VP was talking about four Chinese HD DVD players based on a Microsoft/Broadcom platform. Broadcom's press release said the players would start to arrive in June 2007.

From before launch all the red ants constantly pushed tosh about how HD DVD was going to win because of all the cheap Chinese HD DVD players.

And, here we are over 18 months after launch, and what do we see? One Chinese made rebadge of Toshiba's A3.

I don't recall much talk from Blu supporters saying there would be next to no Chinese HD DVD players in the market by now. After CES, China may look decidedly Blu.

You like that, Gary? Ok, this is so not in the spirit of the Holidays...but I cannot resist...please forgive me and I hope this doesn't bring down bad karma on my own career..

Add on to the above "infomercial"...
Call now, Amir Majidimehr and Steve Nickerson are standing by to take your orders.

Ok, that was wrong but funny. Have a great Holidays guys. Gotta go start helping out. 27 people tonight. Gotta start by opening the clams and oysters and peeling the shrimp (the old lady gives me all the sh!t work ).

What's maddening is that there is indeed a subtle campaign among these types of folks. I was on another board related to broadband and some anonymous poster insisted that he'd talked to a Wall Street insider and that Sony was on the verge of declaring bancruptcy this summer over losses on the PS3.

I don't believe per se that gizmo et al, are paid to post FUD but I am almost certain that they're being pulled along by people who are paid to deceive people. Of that, I have certain faith.

That's right - not only the biggest CE in the exclusive BD camp but also...

  • Authoring centre responsible for the highest reviewed average PQ (Disney)
  • Replication facilities
  • Panasonic Hollywood Labs for other CE's and software manufacturers to run testing
  • Co-sponsors of the Disney Magical Blu-ray Tour
  • Manufacturers of Blu-ray blank media
  • Manufacturers of the 4x Dual Layer Blu-ray Writer LF-PB271JD

What happened to the rest of this thread? Was the good info deleted for obvious reasons?

Nevermind...
