Cool. I have an uncanny knack for figuring out twists. Drives my friends and family crazy. Because of that, I am not disappointed when I figure them out as long as they are interesting, but when one manages to get me it makes it that more enjoyable. So, I am looking forward to this one now whether I can come up with the twist or not. Thanks for the input. I had been going back and forth on this one since last weekend, but now it is on the definite list.

Let's take a moment and give some props to the 7.1 pcm mix...omg. Not only was it enveloping, the extra two rear channels are actually utilized very well and very often to wonderful effect. Immediately after watching War, I watched POTC:AWE and that has a great audio mix, but was just noticeably (and I mean just) less enveloping without the extra speakers. Props to Lionsgate, and this 7.1 mix has convinced me to pick up 3:10 to Yuma and Rush Hour 3 at the least, if nothing else but for the audio.
AMAZING!! I loved the blu-line feature. I think that should be included on all future blu-ray discs, especially since it enables you to insert bookmarks...this would be very useful for those films that do not allow to pick up where you left off after you stop the movie. |

This movie wasn't that good at all....yeah the twist was interesting and there were some good fight scenes but overall it was pretty dull. I'm all for checking my brain at the door for certain films but this was just fell flat for me. Glad I rented this from Netflix, would've been pissed if I dropped $28 on this

The 1.1 features are also interesting. I'm playing around with all of them right now, and I would definitely say that the dual audio streams for commentary is nice. PiP is something I can live without (better with it, since it's no longer a talking point for HD DVD losers), though, and branching is totally stupid (I don't enjoy interrupting the movie itself to see a clip I can watch in special features later).
And blu-line is kind of cool, I guess. EDIT: PiPiP is pretty funny too. Try this: turn on PiP and then open the pop-up menu. ![]() Last edited by Septimus Prime; 01-04-2008 at 04:06 AM. |

Erhm - Shoot Em Up is not intended to be serious, it's meant to poke fun at 80s action movies with nonsensical stunts, as well as the violence in older cartoons - did no one catch the 50 Looney Tunes references in them? I counted 5 at least.
It's a laugh riot, but one that has your brain required to be in the Off position. But it is quite enjoyable, and has replay value in my case. /opinion |

I had not heard of this movie (War), so I looked it up on Rotten Tomatoes, and it only averaged 13% from 54 critics, and the Users average score was 51%.
3:10 to Yuma averaged 88% from 175 critics, and 92% from Users. 3:10 to Yuma is reported to be region free, so I will be adding it to my collection War is also region free, but I will give it a miss Last edited by PS3_Kiwi; 01-04-2008 at 09:48 AM. Reason: added text |

Just got done watching this today. You know why this movie failed? They titled the movie "WAR". What people were expecting was an epic all out war/clash between two international action stars. What they got was a story of two rival gangs, yakuza and the triads, battling over some ridiculous golden horses. That's why this movie failed. The audience went in with big expectations and the movie didn't deliver. It took nearly 45 mins into the movie before we saw J.S. in his first fight scene and almost 1 hr 23min into it before we saw Jet Li in a real fight scene? The two don't actually fight until about an 1hr and 45mins into the movie? Alot more gunplay involved in this movie than I expected and this was definitely Li's most violent US film to date.
Overall it was entertaining, but I don't know about great. I think you add some more martial arts into the movie, retitle the movie from War to something that's more fitting and you have a half decent action movie. PQ and SQ were great. Definite rental if you're into action and maybe a buy for Jet Li fans. |

War was originally called "Rogue" (one of my friends was an extra in the movie, he played one of the mafia corpses, I'm guessing a Yakuza corpse) for the longest time, but when they caught wind that another movie coming out at the same time had the same title (that would be the horror movie Rogue), they went back and changed the title to "War".
If you look at the Japanese and/or Asian release of the movie it still has part of the original title in "Rogue Assassin". |
