Hey guys, i did!!

I'll go again, I had a Hitachi 1080i Plasma and it had really poor blacks and SD picture quality.

I got my Sharp 1080p LCD and was amazed by the difference, colours were really good and blacks really really good!! Overall a lot more crisp and clear picture with the LCD. Just from set up though i have no idea which is better generally speaking.

This is silly. It's like someone judging LCD panels by owning Sylvania, Olevia or Dynex panels. Your opinion would hold more weight if you actually didn't have a crappy plasma panel to begin with. Hitachi is at the tail end of the plasma display business in terms of quality. So gauging anything by Hitachi tech is like gauging automobiles by test driving a Kia Rondo.

Hmmm like to argue much? Dude my opinion holds as much weight as anyone else's - its an opinion - i was simply stating my experience and if you re-read my last sentence you'll see that im not actually saying LCD is better than plasma, i was simply stating what i had owned. Sheesh

That's fine, and i'm not really debating or anything, but I just hope that you realized that you had one of the worst plasmas on the market. That's all I was saying. Hitachi does not make good displays. Just about anything you bought would have looked better, that was my point.

no thats cool, just seemed that you wanted to jump on me for saying what i owned?!?!? Never-mind, yeah it was low end but it was rated very highly and it did give a nice HD picture. (And heated my entire house)

This is right...I guess a lot of people defend their TVs, but like I said earlier I own an LCD and while I believe a lot of them are great TVs I'd have to say that the best Plasma compared to the best LCD would sow that Plasma takes it hands down. There are pros and cons to both of them, but I don't believe that a better picture quality is a matter of opinion. My Brother-in-law was asking me about this because all these guys at his work keep telling him how LCD was better and I was completely shocked. I thought everyone knew as far as PQ went a Plasma was just plain better. We can argue other things like Burn in and glossy screens on Plasmas and motion blur and viewing angles on LCD which make for more pros or cons for each type, but I just believe that PQ on a plasma will outclass similiarily priced LCD. You've got to compare a top of the line to another top of the line, or a bottom end to another bottom end.

Okay. My "bottom end" is tired from all the arguing. It is opinion on what the best PQ is. But more people who have seen the difference prefer Plasma. It has downsides yes. But so do the LCDs. I have an LCD... high end, in my bedroom. I have a Plasma in the living room... also high end. The Plasma is better when compared like that.

LCDs are terrific monitors. So are Plasmas.

my $ 0.02 Any High Def TV is better than nothing. Enjoy your Blu-rays.

Default Samsung plasma 5084 and Samsung 4681 side by side

Now if they were both 1080p, then yes, the plasma would be the obvious choice for better picture quality.

Just keep in mind, with use of LEDs as backlighting for the newest LCD panels, those black levels and color representations are catching up to plasma.
I have seen TV's from the same manufacturer side by side... altho the LED samsung has just as good black levels or slightly better... the color reproduction sucks big time. I mean... quite noticable in the first 10 seconds of viewing... especially on reds for samsung. Anyways... I went and bought a better plasma than the samsung, a panasonic 750U and the colors I am totally impressed with... very true picture. There is no competition yet... dollar to dollar, plasma gives the best picture... and noticably better too in a short time period. I used to have 46" LCD sharp for 1 year.

So in my opinion the samsung plasma is better than the Samsung LED TV and $1000 less and 4" bigger. The LED TV is the pinnacle of LCD technology and is still VERY expensive. You can get the Pioneer Kuro at the same price to whip LCD ass so to speak ;-)

This is not a debate that can be meaningfully won by the lcd side. At the absolute best of each format plasma technology beats lcd technology. Period. Black levels, color reproduction, screen consistency, etc. But lcd is cheaper and has taken most of the lower end market already. A good comparison here is the Blu-ray vs. HD DVD one. Plasma is to Blu-ray as lcd is to HD DVD with regards to picture quality.

hehe....

In terms of sales, and the lame big box stores like Circuit City and Best Buy, LCD is being heavily promoted to no end. Every kiosk or end display has a Sony XBR or 71/81 series Samsung. It's kind of sad when you see people being amazed by AMP/120hz, which more or less is a bastardization of what the movie was intended to look like in the first place. It just defeats the purpose of film watching and viewing the craftmanship of the director. Anything that alters what something is supposed to look like is NOT a good thing. Imagine going to an art gallery to view paintings, then whipping out magic markers and scribbling over the artists work, I just wonder, why go to the artists gallery and destroy the canvas if you can't appreciate the work? That is the state of the LCD market right now. Let's make everything look like CGI, overly bright and saturated like CSI Miami with pumped up hues and unrealistic colors or like home video with AMP.

I was really sad to hear that Pioneer wlll start making LCD's. I realize they have to do that if they want to survive in the display business, but hearing that is like hearing your favorite indy band make a pop song duet with the backstreet boys, because the mainstream just loves that stuff, despite the fact that it is not up to snuff and is flat out inferior. I hope they continue to fight the good fight for plasma displays. We've already lost Fujitsu.

The gross misinformation about Plasma tech doesn't help either. Here in 2008, people think burn in is still a problem. Many don't know the difference between burn in and image retention, and they are used interchangleably. I overheard some guy talking about the liquids in plasma that you need to refill every month. I just really wonder about some people.
