they are going to deny it until they announce it..... just like slim psp. I felt cheated with slim PSP (I planned to hold back my PSP purchase until that Slim PSP comes out, but forum members of ps3forums said that it won't come out)

I was just reading where they were concerned that they wouldn't make their sales goal of 11M. I think this price cut rumor might have some substance in light of this.

Hope they make the price cut, when the ps2 and xbox were on the 200ish value, the gamecube couldn't keep up with ps2 even when dropping the price to 99. I bet the same will happen to wii, the ps3 and 360 will eat its share of the market when they're both at a reasonable price, at 299 or below, and most of that will be for ps3.

And just like price cuts didn't help the cube, I doubt they'll help the wii against ps3, once it's at an acceptable price for most consumers. BLU-RAY + PLAYSTATION BRAND + MOST THIRD PARTY EXCLUSIVES(example gta)+ reasonable price 299. Why would someone choose a wii over that if the price is adequate(299).

So, just so I'm understanding, someone, no one knows who, starts a rumour of a PS3 price cut. No one knows when or how much or what the source of the rumour is. If Sony denies there is a price cut, that's proof there's going to be one. If they confirm the price cut...

Sony only had a price drop barely 3 months ago. To do so again anytime in the near future would, IMO, be devaluing the PS3 as a valuable component. Of course there's going to be a price cut... at some point. That's the nature of technology hardware. None of us know when, and none of us know how much. This "I know there is because Sony says there isn't" stuff is pointless.

I actually agree with you. I think we'll get one on or before MGS4, to do so before is kinda pointless really, but the only way I see one before hand is

A.) Reacting, or trying to beat MS to a drop if they need it

B.) Trying to get a bump in March to make their fiscal forecast but that is unlikely since without game or major BD release it would only be a small short term bump.

But really who knows, More then likely some guy just heard about Sony's new PS3 Sku and figured a price drop happened last time they added one...

I dont think they are going to cut the price again. They just had 2 "pricecuts"(really just one pricecut, disguised as 2)

40gb PS3 $400
80gb PS3 $500

so if my figures are accurate the ps3 could use a price drop

ps when did those new faces come in just wondering

Not really, they don't need one. Think about the extra stuff we get w/ the ps3. For wifi on the 360 you have to pay an extra $100, and extra money for the hd-dud add on (prolly will be getting a price drop )

A price drop wont come until after everyone who got a christmas won't be able to do a price adjustment

Honestly, I don't believe a price cut is needed considering everything that comes with a PS3 package.

Wii found its own market. With or without a price cut, PS3 will not attract the same group of customers.

If you add all the additional component costs to an xbox to bring it up to a PS3, I don't see any cost advantage.

In the case of the PS3, history is not relevant. No successful console has ever launched for such a ridiculously high price.

GTA is not exclusive for the PS3. It's on XBOX as well.
