I actually prefer the D-pad for steering as well, but I only play racing games casualy. Many people I know who have more than a passing interest in racing games prefer the joystick.

I have been getting used to the joystick due to Motorstorm though, that game is pretty fun. It's also been getting me used to the R2 button as accelerate - it felt weird at first, but I like that my thumb doesn't hurt after hours of holding down the accelerate button.

It's hard to learn to steer with the analog sticks - and I'm not suggesting you MUST learn to - but it's a much more precise way of control, one that allows you to use a little bit of gas, brake a little bit, steer left and right slightly.

I think the SIXAXIS/DUALSHOCK 3 dpad might actually still be analog (pressure sensitive with 256° of motion) just like it was on PS2.

Can't remember any PS2 games that used the analog, maybe racing games but generally I only use it for snappy menu navigation. Best dpad out there!

So that leads me to believe that designers/companies could care less about this segment of the gaming public. If they continue to ignore us we will go away... I AM FED UP!!! Have you tried playing NBA2K8? I had to go from hitting the x button to get the mark in the middle when shooting free throws to the analog stick and now to the sixaxis. I think you need to adapt to the new way of playing games or not play these games at all.

In Burnout Paradise the D-PAD is used for going online, starting challenges etc.

If you adjust to using the Analog stick, you'll find the game to be very enjoyable. It's not hard to use the sticks. Give 'em a try.

And I think more people prefer to use the Analog sticks which is why most of the companies use them as default now.

Talking 31 Year Old

Like I said, if you don't have anything constructive to add, keep your comments to yourself. You bring nothing to the table other than to call yourself chasting me. Find somebody else to bother somewhere else.

I'm about to turn 31 and have been playing games since the original Nintendo. Even back then I couldn't stand the D-pad control...I almost always had the joystick controls. The Genesis and then the PS1 kind of forced my transition to the D-pad and I've got to say, the analog controls were a big big upgrade. As someone else alluded to, I doubt you'd even see the d-pad on controllers anymore if it wasn't for it's perfect use as a HUD/weapon selecter. May I ask if there is a reason that you need the D-pad to work other than pure stubornness?
