I still need to get around to trying out the demo of this that I downloaded. Maybe this summer.

How dare you besmirch the fantastic voiceover work on Xenoblade 2

Some of it really is pretty rough, particularly Rex and Malos, but I actually thought the rest of the main cast does at least solid with a couple of standouts in Jin and Pyra. Now the sound mixing is atrocious at times with the dialog so low compared to the music in cutscenes; result of its rush development I suppose.

I downloaded the demo but never gave it a try. I ordered it on Amazon around release weekend because why not. I knew I'd wanna get around to playing it eventually but wasn't expecting to drop everything else for it. Especially after I was initially turned off by the reports of the game having so much dialogue.

My only major complaint about the dub for Xenoblade 2 is Pyra. Her voice actress is so bad. It doesn't sound like she's putting in any effort and sounds so bored and plain. It's a shame because the character has such a nice design and you'd think they'd have went with someone who had a bit more energy in their voice. Maybe she gets better later in the game? Keep in mind I'm only 4 hours in but her voice is the first thing I noticed lol.

I’m very limited in what I can say if you’re that short into it
But me and my buddy who both played the game thought she was the heart and soul of the game and did a great job.

The guy who plays Rex needed some better direction, definitely a big drop from Shulk.

is it not the case in the full game?

speaking of dubs, I've been playing Jrpgs with Japanese audio ever since it became the norm to include them in international releases

It is but it doesn't bother me here. It's interesting and engaging enough that I'm enjoying it. The beginning of the game seems to have a bit more exposition too. It slows down at some point.

The story is so well done & interesting that I didn’t mind it all, I wanted to know more. I was playing a couple of other things on the Switch too & put them all aside for Triangle Strategy. I didn’t even finish the demo, I liked what I played so much I immediately went to my nearest GameStop to pick up a copy.

Isn’t all the dialogue voiced though?

Yes but the dub is terrible. Worth switching to Japanese and reading the text.

I guess I’m one of the only ones that doesn’t mind the dub I’ll listen to JP audio when I have no choice, otherwise English dub always all the way.

I know this is a nearly 6 month old post, but I just tried the demo over the past weekend and didn't mind the English dub either. I also pick the English dub in all games when available because I don't want to just read the dialogue unless I have no choice, unlike with movies where I'm fine with reading the subtitles if it's a foreign movie. Maybe I'm more lenient with voice acting then, but I still can notice actual great voice acting (Fire Emblem: Three Houses when I played the demo).

As for the game, like you, I didn't even finish the demo. I'll be picking this up at some point, as I'm still playing Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition, and I want to play Fire Emblem: Three Houses before this.

It’s actually that people are super lenient with Japanese voices, a language they in all likelihood don’t understand at all and so have a fundamental barrier preventing them from engaging with those voices the same way they do with their own. I remember some of the controversy with the Trials of Mana voice tracks. Apparently, sick and sweetly cute is a big no no in English but the exact same thing in Japanese is perfectly fine?

Which doesn’t mean the English language track was particularly good but certainly the Japanese track isn’t anything great either, it’s just easier to make excuses for..

I’ve seen even pretty obviously excellent voice acting like Dragon Quest XI’s dismissed.

Finally played the demo tonight and enjoyed it…but I did get my butt handed to me at first because of the positioning mechanic and not paying close enough attention to it.

I’ll be on the look out for it during the holiday sales.

It's a great game. I was hesitant at first and I'm glad I went for it. I was just starting a second playthrough before Xenoblade 3 came out in July. Some day I'll get back to that. I want to play in a completely opposite way of how I did the first time around, making all different choices and whatnot when it comes to decisions throughout the game.

This basically never went on sale so I was finally able to fit it into my schedule recently thanks to Best Buy’s B2G1 sale. I’m about six hours in on chapter 4 I think.
[Show spoiler]Dragan was just murdered.
. I’m very much enjoying it but man those who said its exposition heavy early on weren’t lying. There are a couple of the characters not in the demo who’s performances are rough but the major players are fine at least. Though I can only see Camuravi from Xenoblade 3 when Serenoa speaks.

On chapter 9 now and my enjoyment is waning. The story is interesting to me still but its presentation is just so clunky. Click scene, back to map, click scene, back to map, three side scenes, back to map each time. Of my 13 hours I feel like only two hours have been spent actually playing and the rest is sitting listening to dialog. The scales of conviction sequences have also felt so forced each time, especially when a character says Serenoa has to choose a path and no one else…then everybody EXCEPT Serenoa decides the path chosen.
