I work in Best Buy and notice alot of small empty (stolen) cheap products and think WTF? But our blu-rays (except trilogies and tv seasons) are out as is.

True, but what about the Human proof sticky tape all over the cases?
I'd say the side latch is a far bigger deterrent to stealing it out of the case

But it still doesn't stop people from putting it in a pocket, and yes there are ways to get around the internal tags (No, don't list them if you know them)

Why do people have to steal? I have 126 BDs and I'm still working on getting the first case open. I sure hope this HD format looks and sounds as good as everyone says it is....

The walmart near where I live used to have all the DVDs locked up spent a bunch of money on the glass cases, now doesn't have them anymore. DVDs and hi def movies are all out on the floor. I wonder if the loss in sales of people aggravating having to find a sales clerk overtook the loss of product in theft.

The local Wally world had dummy ones out on display and the real ones in a plastic storage container below the register.

The BB here in Hollywood, CA now puts their blu-rays in see through plastic security cases. Very annoying if you buy more than say 2 BDs. This particular BB must be having shoplifting problems because it's the only BB in my area that does this.

Thats crazy, knowing the security at the BB here I don't think anyone would try to steal something, they chase after your ass and tackle you here haha.

Where im from screw the tackle $h!t, they'll put a bullet in your @$$. WalMart has only 1 copy out at a time & some also have them in the SUPER plastic security case 1 out at a time also. On the other hand the HDDVD's are in the "go ahead & steal me 5$ bargain bin" but where else should they be

LOL! Thats probably the only way Wallmart will make any money from them. Let someone steal them and make an insurance claim.

The Wal-Mart in the rich neighborhood (which is the only one in my area with Blu-ray) has their 10 titles out in the open but with those wired security devices on them. They also always get new releases a week later.

They used to do the same at the local ones over here, in a locked case with a PS3 and games.
Then they designed the nice display case in the isle and a month later they disappeared somewhere close to the music section.
It was a pain in the ass to find someone to open the case, plus a lot of movies have been hidden behind others or behind PS3 games.
Maybe they got sick of it as well... now lets just hope they'll up the selection!

Not locked at either of the Wmarts in my town.
Each store has about 40 titles to choose from on blu-ray and about half of that on hd dvd.

one of my WM has them out in the open, the supercenter, the regular walmart on the bad side of town has them in the PS3 glasscase, and you have to get on all fours if you want to look at their huge seletion of 3 titles

The three walmarts in my area have the endcap in front of the register all Hi deffed out. There are about 40 or so titles out in the open. They all get a majority of the new releases each week.

My Wal-mart and Sams club have them out in the open. Most do not have security locks but some of the milti disk collections do.

In the past they were in the case with the PS3 games, but that's probibly not a bad place for them. Gamestop has HD-DVD in with regular DVD, but Blu-Ray with PS3 games. In the early days of PS3 there were a lot more spaces for games than there were games, so putting the BD movies there made it look like you could do more. If you are shopping at Wal-Mart for BDs there is a very good change you have a PS3. Wal-mart doesn't seem to sell stand alone BD players.

People must sometimes check to see a game that isn't in, and notice a movie they were not looking for, but pick it up anyway.

Yep. Cases are a counter-measure to theft. At least that's Wal-Mart's policy anyway. Think about how often you leave the store buying toothpaste and batteries and set their alarm off. Their people just turn it off... they're numb to it.

I would look for the standard DVDs to come out of the cases once the winner of this format war (BLU, of course) is clear to the entire public, not just the smart ones.

I have 2 Super Wal-Marts within 5 minutes of me..the newer one(San Jacinto, Ca) with fewer Blu-Ray titles has no locked case..the movies are right there as soon as you get to electronics..the older one(Hemet, Ca) has two giant locked cases which they keep their Blu and HD DVD movies in..they have an impressive amount and always have new titles on release day..
