"Transformers" will sell great on BD, but not as great as a NEW release blockbuster like your latter two mentions.

I think Bill Hunt said next year for Trek... though I could be wrong!! Thank goodness Paramount waited to release ST until after they were supporting "lossless" audio...

I bought SW: Episode II or III (can't remember which) for $7 or $8 on DVD at CC during release week.

Fox's Blu-ray MSRPs are similar to what they charged for DVD during the early years of DVD. As more people started buying, Fox reduced MSRP and retailers offered bigger discounts. By the time SW comes to Blu-ray, expect the same thing to happen to BD...

While I have no doubt "Cloverfield" will sell well, it probably would have sold better on Blu-ray had it been released D&D with the DVD. Also, releases that are released this Fall/Winter probably have the best chance of making their mark.

Besides, I think sales are only a part of what would constitute a "splash"...

I agree sales are only part of it.

For a studio to truly "make a splash" they must release titles that make the general public want to run out and buy a BD player.

I remember that! Toys R Us was selling Episode II on dvd for $9.99 on release day back in 2002. I ended up having CC price match it. That was one of the best months in DVD history. November of 2002. Lord of Rings Fellowship EE was also released on that same day.

I believe it was Nov 12th.

I think tha PAramount has a chance at BD greatness. Iron Man and Indiana Jones 4 are going to be HUGE sellers for the BD crowd.

Paramount will have some great major day & date titles, but I'm looking forward more to Universal's catalogs. Bring on King Kong, Dawn of the Dead '04, The Thing, Ang Lee's Hulk, Children of Men, American Gangster, and the Bourne Trilogy all with DTS HD MA.

Oh yeah, we'll also be getting The Incredible Hulk, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Mummy 3, and Hellboy 2.

I think either Warner or Disney have made the best efforts in supporting the format. Warner because of continual catalog releases and Disney for their disc quality. But I am really pleased with the recent progress Paramount has made.

Cloverfield isn't quite as popular as you may think. Everyone I talk to seems to be pretty lukewarm about it.

I'll get Indy 4 only if they release Indy 1-3... to make it like a set. I thought it was pretty good, but not worth buying on its own.

Transformers I don't care about.

Iron Man I'll probably buy.

I'm most interested in There Will Be Blood, which is releasing really soon.

Of course Warner has Batman Begins... V for Vendetta and I'll assume The Dark Knight, the Shawshank Redemption... if they threw in Batman and Batman Returns, I'd be set. I don't know what else is coming out for any other studios that interest me this year. I guess Ghostbusters from Sony.

Believe me, there are people who still haven't switched to Blu who are saying they will be convinced to buy a Blu-ray player if either Godfather or Indiana Jones is released on Blu. Iron Man will sell well, but it isn't going to convince the real collector's to get into high-def. Neither will Transformers.

Releasing Indiana Jones 1-3 is not really Paramount's call. They could only release them with Lucas and Spielberg giving both of their approvals. It's hard to say if the BD market is big enough yet to support titles of that stature.

Paramount has no chance to be the best of 08, as they should have focused on the movies that would have huges sales like Transformers. They're a bunch of slackers and by the time it comes out on Blu, I will no longer be interested in purchasing it. Possibly a rent at best. I'm not very interested in their release dates either. Disney has already blown them away.
