For the same reason you don't see refridgerators with built-in toasters. People do not want them. I have created at least 2 threads in trying to propagate the concept of HDTV with built-in blu-ray. Even with the easily removable "blade concept" virtually everyone here is against the idea. Go figure.

Everyone worries about the player going bad and the whole tv being out of commission for the repair. Again, maybe the blade concept isn't fully understood. People would be able to pull the darn thing to get it repaired. Or, upgrade the player in a few years with a new blade unit.

8-track tape was a good idea poorly executed. Some day a whole HD movie will be playable on a 3" disc instead of the 4.75" we see today. (Not like the dumbed down version we see for the PSP.) Will people accept this as the new standard? The movie you can slip in a shirt pocket. Maybe not. People still associate size with value.

Some ideas are great on paper, but have little practical use.

dell or microsoft, or whoever the companies are that you're referring to, are by no means revoking anybody's 'choice' to use a PC as a video player.

If they put all those formats on one player , then there would also have to be more codec's . Which means more programming and more hardware to help support all of those codec's , which means more cost . The cost of a player like that would be crazy . If my technical jargon isn't correct I apologize but you get the jest I hope .

There it is. The OP should be satisfied with that response... that is, if the OP is old enough to understand the complexities and games involved with intimate relationships. We males have to exert our dominance through showing that we are ultimately responsible for making the decisions around the house by not asking permission to spend money wantonly.

That's one of the biggest B.S. staments I have ever heard. Yet, some reason I find myself inspired by it. I think I'll run to Walmart, spend this weeks "fun money" on Blu-rays, come back to the house and say "Now, whats up!?!"

Hi there Cash
I highly recommend you replace your microwave immediately. If it is interfering with the phone or other electronic devices in your home, you are probably endangering yourself with stray microwaves every time you use it.
Older microwaves machines can leak radiation that is hazardous to your health, mainly because seals wear out.

my microwave is new, its just when you buy wireless stuff you notice things, so many signals flying around the place, wireless for the pc's, wireless for the tv's so i can watch sat in different rooms.
and many other things, i also have the wireless going into my pc, so i can watch tv on my pc and record through my divx converter.
but that is a intresting point thanxs.

its was the same with dvd players when they first came out, they would only play certian formats, now i have a dvd player that plays divx, mpeg, wmv's, mp3 and many more, but before when they first came out it was the same as it is now, the question still remains why, the answer is money.

i will buy a blu-ray player, when they bring one out that plays multi formats, these companies that dont know what people want dont care and in my veiw, there products are not worth buying, so why spend money on somit that dont fully work ? or only does part of the job, or wont play a film someone gave you, or only works with certian things.
its like say you bought a dvd camera, or some new cam and u tried to play the movie on your new blu-ray player, but it wont work cause its in the wrong format, well your ****** thats it.

Good for him, I guess. You're saying that he already has a standalone Blu-ray player, but ditched it in favor of his HTPC? For some that may work, but as most HTPCs don't output lossless multichannel audio in any form, and none correctly output native 24p, it's a far less than perfect solution for Blu-ray. Also, given the flakiness of the Blu-ray software players, there's also the very real possibility that a month from now the whole thing will suddenly stop working.

I don't get it. So you want standalone Blu-ray players to play every computer video format known to man? Basically, you want a PC... just inside a Blu-ray player. They're two different things, and the VAST majority of people would NEVER use the features. Already, the PS3 (which is itself largely a computer) can play many of those formats, and several other standalones can playback Divx files from various media. Similarly, properly formatted AVCHD discs can be played by many standalone players. A few players are even setup as DLNA receivers, to allow video playback from a PC. At the end of the day, though, those are just additional "bonus" features to try to appeal to a small segment of early adopters. The majority of people just want a Blu-ray player that plays Blu-ray/DVD/CD -- and does it WELL. Adding a ton of features that have nothing to do with Blu-ray adds to the cost of the player and risks it becoming a "jack of all trades, but master of none" player.

I bought a blu ray player to hook it up to my toaster oven, but it didnt really give me the PQ i was wanting. So I hooked it up to my HDTV as a last resort.
Its OK.

eh no get ur facts right before u go blurting of rubbish, i have been playing all my blu-ray movies and divx movies, wmv and many others through my pc for quite some time and never had one single problem.
i have a quad core, ati radeon hd 3870x2 my pc is in my office, which is prity far from my hd monitor, every movie i watch is beautiful quality and i can play any format and i dont need to spend silly money on junk that dont play everything and only plays certian formats, my freind has done the same and regrets spending 500 pounds on the peice of junk, he said he was better off with his ps3, but now i sorted his computer out its all good.
customers are ripped off for a start the price, then the junk doesnt do what it should or play what it should, not everyone has a pc but most do and as for different formats its like time repeating itself, the same bulll was said about the dvd.

when i say it dont play everything i just mean the in general formats that people use and hardware uses, for instance some dvd cams use wmv some use divx some use mpeg, i have a dvd player that plays wmv, divx, rm, mpeg, dvd and plays a few more i bet, so if my old dvd player plays it then why dont a state of the art more advanced blu-ray play it, i mean they said the same thing when dvd came out, its all to do with money but i am sure if a company had to bring such a player out it would make a fortune.
