Default why do people buy blu-ray players

sorry but i am sort of confused, by why people buy blu-ray players for there tv's, its kinda funny really my freind buys all that stuff, he has spent thousands of pounds on these things, but the funny thing is he uses his blu-ray player on his computer when i showed him what to do he now uses that and watches his films and stuff on his computer which is conected to his tv and his computer monitor the reason is blu-ray players (not the blu-ray drive in his computer i mean) dont play all formats, so why buy it if it dont play divx, divx hd, wmv, mpeg-2, mpeg4, so on and so on a player, should play either all or all the normal ones, well the one's the public want, i mean is this not just common sense to support as many as pos.

Because people like high definition image quality and high resolution audio?

Just a guess.

That sentence confused me. I'm used to punctuation. Anyways, most people don't have blu-ray players on their computers and a lot of people that do have reported problems playing movies. I just bought a new laptop but if I had wanted to add a blu-ray player to it I would have had to pay an extra $500. No thanks, I'll stick with my PS3s.

that was painful to read.
the reason most people don't use a PC with a blu-ray drive hooked up to their TV is because most people aren't tech savvy enough to know how to do it.

Cool

Cash, aside from your friend, who wants to boot up a quirky pc to play a blu-ray movie? With the noise they can generate, I sure don't.

Was about 4 years ago I bought a new computer and my first cd/dvd combo player and a cd/dvd burner. I even spent 70 bucks on a fancy mouse with wireless remote control functions so I could watch DVD from the PC.

Guess what. I tried it out ONCE to satisfy my long standing desire to do so. Unless I need a different player to test a disc, I NEVER watched a movie on my PC.

Though I am an IT person at heart, there is something nice about the simplicity of a dedicated player that isn't being hacked over the Internet as you play your movie.

i think what he/she was saying is their friend has a PC hooked up to an HDTV, the benefit being you can play a wider variety of media formats. he/she never said that their friend was watching blu-rays on a 17" CRT and cheapy computer speakers.

i've got a PC hooked up to my HDTV via HDMI and it's also plugged into my receiver. it is possible to watch blu-ray on your HDTV with 7.1 sound thru a PC and experience the same quality a standalone would deliver. i believe the OP is asking why more people don't go that route.

I think the answer is that it's complex, it's not always clear-cut if it'll work out of the box, and many don't need the extra video formats-their cheaper standalone computer can do that.

Honestly, it's not a very valid question. People purchase what they're comfortable with. I could probably get an HTPC and blu-ray player up and running with 7.1 sound, but I know my wife and daughter would never be able to use it. I also would spend more time tweaking than watching movies.

In the end, it's all personal preference.

yes i understand what you mean and agree with you, but the question i am asking, is why do the companies not put these capabilities on ? so people have a choice.
and i used fiber optic cable nice and neatly tucked away, does the job for me, the microwave kills the wireless system or the phone.
and for the rest whom dont understand, i put punc if you cant see em, well u need glasses and remember to breath after the AND.
i know its about prefrence, but isnt it also about a wider range of customers too, i mean i dont have to buy a new player, so i can watch some other format, i like to watch my sci fi and its downloaded in wmv format, then there is the documentaries they are divx hd sometimes, i mean they look fantastic on my tv in my living room good sound good quality.
