well everyone is forgetting what George wants... he will release the special editions first... milk them for everything he can get... then a few years later he will give us the origional versions... its all about the mighty dollar with George.
Ive purchased star wars on Vhs when it came out.... bought the trilogy on laser disc when it came out (origional versions i ended up selling for a fortune)
then bought them on DVD.

I dont care how well they look or sound George your not getting another dime of my money.

I think we will be waiting a very long time for these movies on blu. I bought my bluray player a year ago so that means I have not watched a dvd in a year. It also means I have not watched a starwars movie in a year. That breaks the addiction for starwars. Out of sight out of mind. If I was lucas I would have had starwars out on blu 6 months ago on a movie only disc. than next year another version and had people so hooked on starwars they would be buying toys /video games and going to see clonewars. But I guess I must be the stupid one cause people stormed the theatre to see clone wars and get their fix. I think lucas's way(make them forget about starwars) sucks.

Both, and all in-between, plus any more versions that may come out between now and then.

Both versions are absolutely necessary to be honest. I like the idea of having the option to view the originals, but the special editions do look much better aside from a few minor quibbles.

Both would be great. I actually do prefer the 'updated' versions though. I mean how could you be against the updated versions after the original Ewok celebration was cut out of 'Return'?? I was doing donkey kicks and fist pumps in the air... stupid orginal ewok celebration...(mutters)....

Here is how it is going to go:

George Lucas releases the old trilogy's special edition with even MORE "enhancements" because, as he puts it, is what he originally intended all along. Lots of people are upset by this and clamor for the original trilogy to be released on blu ray.

A few months after the first blu ray release George Lucas announces that due to fan demand he will release the original untouched trilogy on blu ray, fans cheer and once again George is the king.

BUT!

Some fans demand the original special edition trilogy because they feel it was superior the current special remixed edition trilogy so George annouces that due to fan demand he will release THESE on Blu ray, everyone again cheers.

BUT THEN!

He decides to release episodes I-VI on a big nice "special collectors hyper deluxe edition" Blu ray box set with more additional features....this time he is kidnapped and hung for crimes to humanity.

The end.

I liked the "enhanced" versions better - but I think they will eventually release the "original" versions of 4-6.

Personally, I hope he fixes Yoda in Ep 1. I like the ep 2+3 digital yoda (leave ep 4-6 yoda alone). In Ep 1. Yoda just didn't work.

I like the 2004 version a lot better than the original un-spiffied movie. It's still a shame the original trilogy didn't have effects the preqiul one had, but the updates in 2004 really helped.

They replaced some holograph characters with more recognizable recent characters, and replaced some scenes of Jabba the Hut with a CGI Jabba. I think they may have enhanced the space battle scenes as well.

After discovering this, I felt very disappointed that I didn't watch the originals for the first time.

Which Star Wars should we get on Blu?
BOTH!!!

Although I'd only want both mainly for the nostalgia factor. As has been stated already, the remastered versions are best for watching the entire saga.

I'm really hoping George goes back and re edits Episode 3 because there was so much good stuff missing from the theatrical release that deserves to be put back in for the Blu-ray release.

I mean the Birth of the Rebellion George?!? what the F**K are you doing cutting that stuff out. The Rebellion is a quintessential element to the SW universe.

I enjoy the enhanced versions more, except for the Hayden Christensen holographic replacement of Sebastian Shaw in Return of the Jedi. That should not have been done!

The originals.

I was there kiddo...they were magical.

In the new ones...when Greedo shot first...an entire generation's heart stopped.

You see we had always heard about cut scenes and we were all curious about it, so when the special editions were finally going to be released, those of us who "were there" were all very excited to see our beloved modern mythology ENHANCED. What we got...was our favorite movies of all time CHANGED. Nobody expected Lucas to flat out REPLACE StarWars with that new crap. We thought we'd have the choice.

The original 3 are the original three and the enhanced 3 are special editions. They were always supposed to be treated as two (or 6) seperate entities and that is the way it should be.

The idea of giving fans something they missed because of time constraints and lack of technology was a good and pure idea.

The idea of changing a timeless scene to fit a politically correct norm was a total let down personally, artistcally and POLITICALLY.

My bottom line:

As long as you are watching StarWars, I am happy. I would just like you to at least experience the original pieces that brought so many people so much joy before they were altered.

note: the originals were available on dvd at bestbuy for a time, you might still be able to find them.

He should release both restored and remastered. None of this nonanamorphic DVD bonus edition bs.

He had to, he either needed to make episode III a 3-4 hour movie or break it up into two seperate movies.

there is simply too much to cover in episode III to make it a 2 hour 20 min. movie.

Read Revenge of the Sith it is really good and explains everything so much better.

I would also like to see both with seemless branching. Actually, I like the Special Editions better with the exception of the two scenes detailed below. So, if I could have the Special Editions with the option of swapping of the following edited scenes for the origional ones, I would be extremely happy.

Greedo - Episode IV
origional ----- "Now we come to perhaps the most contentious change in the history of the trilogy. In the scene above Han Solo, cornered by the bounty hunter Greedo, has little choice other than to shoot first and ask questions later. This scene established Han as an ice-cool space pirate; as someone who walked a fine line between good and evil (thereby making the evolution of his character all the more interesting)."

Special Edition -------- "For the Special Edition release of Star Wars George Lucas did the unthinkable—he made Greedo shoot first! Lamented by fans and filmmakers such as Kevin Smith alike, this is perhaps the single most objectionable change in the entire trilogy. Putting aside the fact that it transforms Han Solo from the aforementioned ice-cold space pirate to a lucky son of a b****, the effects used to bring the new scene to life are simply atrocious. Greedo’s blaster bolt seems to fly off at an angle (even though his gun is pointed directly at Han) and Solo himself jerks his head to one side courtesy of some ropy CGI. The whole thing is absolutely hideous!"

The Jedi Spirits - Episode VI
origional ----- "Here we see the spirits of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda and Anakin Skywalker as they watch Luke and the Rebels celebrate their victory over the Empire. As with Vader’s death scene, Anakin is played by actor Sebastian Shaw."

Special Edition -------- "Here we have the scene from the 2004 DVD release, but with one huge difference—Sebastian Saw has been replaced by Hayden Christensen! For many this ranks as perhaps the worst change in the whole saga (at least if the majority of posts I’ve read are to be believed), and I have to agree. I know there are those who will argue that Anakin died when he became Darth Vader, and so it makes sense for him to appear as a young man, but this just doesn’t sit right with me. In killing the Emperor, Anakin was redeemed; he returned to the light side of the Force. It’s worked this way for twenty years, and it didn’t need to be changed in such a ham-fisted manner in order to tie the film into the prequels. To top it off, Sebastian Shaw’s warm, loving smile has been replaced by Christensen’s decidedly creepy glare. Lock up your children!"

Maybe because it was a much better scene than the boring montage of planets thing? The Endor celebration was much more upbeat and joyful than the bore-fest it was replaced by. And what a disservice to the actor who played Darth Vader, CGI'ed out of the final moments and replaced with talentless Hayden...

Then there's the major change to Han Solo's character in the Greedo scene that has already been mentioned. Not to mention, I didn't like how many ships were added at the end of Star Wars. In the original, it looked like a rag tag group of rebels; in the Special Edition, it looked the Rebellion had a massive fleet to send in.

And finally that stupid, drawn out musical number in Return of the Jedi.

Really, those are my major gripes with the CGI-fest Special Editions.

If I may add to that, when Obi-wan and Luke enter Mos Eisley there is just a ton of CGI that is totally unnesecary. We got CGI jawas falling off Rontos and getting stuck and other jawas giggling at them, we got CGI dewbacks and banthas all over the place. Its just ridiculous.

I prefer TESB SE, but thats it. Ian McDiarmed is a big improvement over chimp eyes.

I feel a bit like a misery on here today as I have posted another (did not like these films and don't rate then) comment, but I think that for the fans of these types of film they should release each iteration (a bit like Blade Runner) so that you can choose which version to watch or the version you prefer.

I did not like the way they re-did the Star Trek releases with new CGI. I would prefer them as alternatives.

Wouldn't it be 3 versions instead of 2?

We have the Original Theater, then the Special Editions, then the DVD release.

Even then, weren't some things added and changed from the "Special Edtion" to the DVD release?...well besides that they changed "the Old Anikin" in Ep 6 to umm Hayden.

Too many changes, I can't keep up anymore.

PS: I heard in the Blu release there going to make it where Han Shot first, but missed. Then Greedo shoots and miss, then Han again and hits him.
