Wow, interesting discussion regarding the state of things Blu-ray in South Korea. I like my Samsung BD-P1000 Blu-ray player and expect subsequent models to be much better with Samsung helping bring prices down here in the USA. I can only assume demand in South Korea is perceived to be too tiny for Samsung to mess with.

A very different culture when it comes to movie viewing.
Among many Korean friends I have, none buys DVDs (let alone BD or HDDVD) on a regular basis. People go to theatre like crazy, but they just don't buy copies much (at least legit ones.)
DVD market never took off there. No one hardly thinks next generation format will either..
I kid you not. I was looking for 'Sympathy for Lady Vengeance' during my visit there last year.. Couldn't find it. Ended up buying in US!!! I'm sure I didn't look hard enough. But still, it definitely was not readily available. There aren't even that many stores that carry a decent size movie collection.

Hardware manufactures just don't seem to have incentives to really worry about the domestic market when people aren't really interested in buying the medium.
