Samsung BR + Marantz Decoder/Amp
I had the same issue with this sound track... perhaps even worse. In my case, the audio would actually cut in and out (about 3 seconds of sound, about 5 seconds of silence), and when the audio was there, it contained a significant quantity of hissy/popping sounds. I'd upgraded to latest firmware, but had the same problem. Finally I threw an old disk into the player (Silverado), and it suddenly had the same sound issues! I decided to power down my entire stack, doing a hard reboot. Interestingly, this cured the problem. Even the Prince Caspian disk sounds great now. I'm a little puzzled as to why, though, unless the upgrade to the firmware caused some software problem between the player and the amp/decoder (connected via HDMI) which wasn't cleared until the decoder/amp was also rebooted... but that seems extreme. |

Welcome to the forum. Glad you were able to fix it because this is one great audio track!

Well, received my replacement BD from Amazon and, as suspected, no change. Interesting observation about the Pioneer Receivers. I've checked previously and can't find any information on firmware updates for receivers. I'm continously checking to insure I've got the latest firmware for my BD player. Maybe there is one waiting "in the wings." In any event I'll keep watching to see if anyone comes up with a fix for this. I'm sure this is a fundamental question but if one BD 7.1 DTS master audio disc plays ok on your equipment, why wouldn't another one play ok?

I suggest calling Pioneer. Maybe another BD forum can help out also.

I spoke with Pionner extensively. What Pioneer is saying is that the DTS-HD MA was encoded in a strange way that causes the glitch. The only thing that they can do is to force me to mail my reciever in for service. This I will not do. Further, I question whether it is anything but an error in the actual encode of the disc, as all of my other DTS-HD MA 7.1 discs play fine. I have heard the problem is replicated on other receivers and people that can bitstream it by PCM is a work around, but I don't think I can do this. Wall-E is on right now for my kids, and it is fine (although I think it is 5.1). The audio problem with Caspian makes it completely unwatchable. Disney is very good at customer support, so hopefully this will be corrected soon.

I have also tried to force my BD player to send all DTS as PCM, but that either did not work, or I failed to do it properly. I don't know that I believe that it is a hardware fault, but I suppose it is possible. I have well over 200 Blu-ray disks with many having 7.1 DTS-HD MA and this is the only title with a problem.

Yes. I could only do the email support, but one was sent. I will update once they respond. I will say that Disney does a really good job responding to issues, so hopefully they can correct this or at least make sure it isn't a problem in the future.

Got it to work. In my BD player's home menu, I set the HDMI audio out to PCM instead of auto. It works just fine. I just have to remember to set it back to auto when I am done. Hooray.

I'm more inclined to believe it's how Pioneer is decoding the track, since PCM (where the player does the decoding) plays it fine. I'd be contacting Pioneer for a firmware update.

Ok, I think I see what you mean.........so when the BD player audio is set to "auto" what piece of hardware is doing the decoding? The Receiver or the player?
