LOL! Should I use my shoulder? 6'2"? My roommate's shoulders, at 5'2" or 5'7"? Boy, Le Corbusier would have something to say about this. It's eyes, my good sir, eyes, not shoulders!
I have a iffy back and neck (I grew roughly 8-10 inches in one year back in early high school, not to mention being craned over a desk as an architect student early in my college years - stopped that by now using computer programs 3 years ago, phew) - so I can't be craning up even the slightest. And it's not as if you move your eyes to the center of the tv, you move your entire head.

Are you an architect?

So why hang it on the wall then if it's at eye level isn't it same height as the tv stand?

So you guys do this everyday like me? I'm 5'11" (average height?) It's just a starting point. We have found over the years that AVERAGE shoulder height is the best. Do whatever you want! Geez!

I needed the top of the TV stand for my big ol' center channel.

lol - we're just messing around, good sir - don't take it personally. Like I said, I do it lower simply because of my iffy vertebrae.

Drinkmore,

Mine is at 35.5." off the floor. It is a little higher than it was on the stand but I needed the extra room for clearance above my receiver.

I have the 58" Panny plasma TH58-PZ800U.

Hello,

"How you mount the television is also very important. I recommend mounting the television consistent to the height at which you will watch from. Two schools of thought: If you watch TV while sitting on the couch, then the flat panel should be mounted at eye level to the center of the screen from your height sitting straight on the couch. However, this could make the TV seem low when standing next to it so if you were to adjust the television in direction vertically, then adjust up so the bottom of the screen is eye level while sitting and the top is eye level when standing"

Check the link,

Regards,

That's why they make tilting mounts so you can tilt the tv to the direction of the eye. And the whole idea with mounting it is so it looks like a picture on the wall. It looks funny if it isn't up higher than eye level. Especially if there isn't a stand or something to offset it below. And like I said if it doesn't need to be higher than the stand why mount it? Unless there is something on the stand that has to go there (where the tv sits like a center channel..which btw we have put behind some tvs facing upwards and have sounded great! or a rcvr?? We actually zip tied a wii and a Direct TV rcvr to the back of a tv that was in a lunch room at a business and it worked great!!).

Best thing to do is take a big piece of cardboard like the box the tv comes in and cut out the shape of the tv and tape it to the wall. That way you can see what it looks like before you put it up. And like I say...these are generalities or averages. Everyones taste is different but you need some place to start.

I did this with painters tape. Marked the center of my wall - vertical and horizontal and then measure out from there top, bottom, left and right until I got the dimensions of my tv. Then I taped it off. Gave me the size and position.

We do it with cardboard because it provides a darker reference but that will work too!

Wow..... someone can't take a joke! Is this why you lowballed my HT gallery so badly? When you score a HT so far below an average that has been firmly established by 25+ scores, it would be nice if you could at least describe what you found to be so below par. Without an explanation, one can only assume it's a petty personal thing.
