I want to hear the lowest frequencies my sub is capable of producing without shaking the walls. Man, I really need an isolation riser.

Big daddy, just wondering about your thoughts on IB's... you probably have one in the bathroom dont you?
I don't need IB subs in my bathroom. I watch Blazing Saddles occasionally. That is more than enough.

This is a good link that explains IB subs:

lol. No, but, seriously - that is impressive.

But on an on-topic note, I'm not a bass junkie. I just want even bass throughout my HT room, that's my only intent in two subwoofers, not to overwhelm myself. I'm one of those who believe that shaking the windows, the glasses in the kitchen, or rattling the walls is a bad thing - and not what you're supposed to do with bass. Sure, I can turn up the gain and achieve this - but again, that's not the point.
black bars are gone due to his panamorphic lens...

likewise, im not really into getting that far with regards to rattling the house, but it would be something id like to experience. probably in the comfort of another members home. but to get lower than 20hz in such a room? that must be quite an amazing feeling.

saw that a while back, but thank you big daddy. you know i do my homework.

all in all, its a great opportunity to experiment with if given the chance. but as you probably know, space is premium here in california. id rather have a bathroom in that space.

wait. i think i wouldnt mind having that than a mirror above the sink.

I think technically too much bass is when your sub sticks out. The low end really should compliment the rest of the mix evenly. However, where is the fun in that? Everyone loves loud booms.. even if they are too loud

x2... i agree...

play it the way its supposed to be played... it should blend in seemlessly with the rest.. and not be visible at all.. all a sub is, is a speaker to produce those last 2 octaves.. 20-80hz... and the reason for all the fuss is beccause smaller speakers cant reproduce those octaves awell as the higher freqs..

i feel that the bass should represent what the engineers wanted you to hear.. and nothing more.. being too loud is annoying... but when you have set just right.. you are still able to hear what was supposed to be heard and felt.. only if the sub can play it..

i ran a single sub IB mounted in my car back when i was competing... there is no other sound like it.. just truly amazing... very lower extension and just incredible sound..

but the best sound i have ever heard.. was from an APERIODIC enclosure.. now that was truly heaven sent..

After putting my subs on risers, I don't have anything that audibly shakes. It is really a different experience without things shaking.

A riser would certainly help.

DK, Jason's WAF - a riser would look hideous, he'd have to carpet it with dark red velvet and embroider it in gold,

Who said risers had to be ugly?

However, most systems are really high in the low frequencies, and poor quality performance as well.

Thank You
It might not sound complicated stating it like this, but in reality it is a very complicated process getting a room to have a flat frequency response [at the listening position].

Ain't that the truth! I don't think the Auralex ones look bad though, and I would probably go that route if any.

Jason, look at this one:

That can't be any more ugly than your sub.

It's ironic - I'm great with woodworking, but just SO lazy and without a dedicated shop of my own (and I just lost UMs woodshop now that I graduated) - that I bought my own Auralex SubDude. haven't set it up yet, though.

This is too much bass:

didnt see this due to the color schematics.

1. poor quality bass in home theaters are a result of a number of factors. see number 2 and 3 response.

2 and 3. its not that simple. if it was, then we wouldnt be dealing with bass traps, corner traps, risers, proper subwoofer placement, crossover settings for each speaker that produces the same frequency the subwoofer does, and so on. we havent even considered the living conditions, the furniture interactions, carpet flooring, hardwood, leather seating the list goes on and on. PLUS the wife factor.

easier said than done my friend. even a dedicated home theater room isnt that easy to get a flat response.
