As for Avatar. After I finish watching Nightmare on Elm Street, I think I might pop it in for a 5th viewing.
Well you are a couple of viewings up on me. I am at 3. I enjoyed Avatar and could care less if the story has been told before or if there are holes in the storyline, hell I gave TF2 3.5 stars.

Amazing if yes.
No, the DVDtalk reviewer reviewed the movie when it came out in theaters, and gave it the same score.

Just curious (not trying to start an argument), but what period of Batman do you consider "your" period?

I really got into Batman with Killing Joke, Dark Knight Returns, Knightfall, Long Halloween type stuff, so Batman Begins and Dark Knight, to me, are almost perfectly in tune with those types of stories, so your opinion that BB and TDK are poor films has always been kind of to me.

I know that's terribly off topic, but at least a break from what's been going on for the last thirty pages

I think its funny how for the last few months many threads have derailed into Avatar discussions just like it was for TDK before.... and now....Batman shows up and derails Avatar

As for Avatar. I don't see any faults. I thought it was one of the best movies ever made.

TDK is an amazing movie

Avatar is a great movie. But the story is "Dances with Wolves" it isn't an original story. That is where it fails a little.
But the visuals is stunning. this is a movie made for blu ray and it looks beyond reference quality. It looks absolutely fantastic and it is the best blu ray i have ever seen

and i am sure when the DVD people see this on blu ray they will rush out to get a blu ray player because damn man. The PQ exceeds all expectations.

Wait, what's Avatar? I guess this isn't the thread for Christian Bale lovers. Damn, I need to lay off the cigaweed. I am going into the wrong threads and all I'm seeing are smurfs all over my walls that have Zoe Saldana's voice.

There are not many premises left, but plenty of stories. IMO

All there is is new ways of telling the same story. New elements and settings.
I think Gandalf Stormcrow is right, in a way; it's the new perspectives on the old stories, or the connections made with aspects of existence that we are always in the process of apprehending anew, that makes a story line, or the filmmaker's handling of the voyage of discovery, worthwhile.

A professor of literature I knew in the '60s said that (at that time) the only plot lines that were relatively new were those in Steppenwolf (written in 1925,but suddenly popular in the '60s) and 2001: A Space Odyssey. He considered adding Last Year at Marienbad. Of course we all know that 2001 can be seen in archetypal terms, as a myth of transformation, or even in terms of the long voyage home that it was named after, but -- perhaps -- some of the unique visual and auditory lexicon and syntax specific to film may have been used to tell this kind of story for the first time in 2001.

You may be right, I will just have to watch again! Does seem to be mixed a little low like the walmart version of transformers 2. Seemed a tad lower than the average dts-hd track.

This thread might be near exhaustion.
  1. Consensus on PQ/AQ
  2. Load times YMMV
  3. We are all huge Blu fans and almost all of us own it and have seen it
  4. TDK is taking over
  5. Most are watching it AGAIN!!

I like both but avatar more. I love the dark knight for amazing amazing performance by the late heath ledger, and the PQ and AQ helps. But i love avatar for everything. I can't image the HT owners with a 120in+ screen its probably breath taking all over again.

a movie is the entire package. If you watch it more than 3 times and its only been out for 1 day then its EPIC.

omg tdk this tdk that, well if everybody is talking about i mite as well chime in, i dont hate the movie, batman begins was a far better film, ledger is the only thing that kept tdk together, if u replaced joker with al pacino, it wouldve been scarface 2 with some super duper cop after him, burtons batmans were far better and more comic book like, and less crime gangster like, i was very dissapointed by the blu ray(non imax scenes), pop in..star trek, iron man, incredible hulk, before or after, and TDK's pq does not come close, DNR'd to shit, and the audio is loud and good, but for the most part it is all LFE

neways back on the topic of avatar, which is a far more amazing blu ray, and a far better film
