I would just stick with the DVD as it is the proper 2.35:1 ratio along with DD 5.1. The DE BD is 1.33:1 and has DD 2.0.

Im sure there was a 2.35:1 ratio TV extended cut on DVD? (never saw this one though)

Yes, it was only available in widescreen on the steelbook "flipper" dvd. OOP, but usually found on the 'bay for <$20.

I think the BD of the theatrical cut is awesome, a big improvement over the DVD in both audio and video, but I personally wouldn't bother with the cropped DE BD of the tv version.

I have both. Stick with the DVD for the TV edit.
(Although the red amray case is kinda cool looking...)

I see where the 2000 TV mini-series is being released in June in DE. Hopefully, that will be done properly.

If you prefer the theatrical cut, yes, the BD is a huge upgrade. If you prefer the extended TV cut (as I do, warts and all), then absolutely not.

Yes, my impression is that he was asking about the TV cut. I've edited my post to clarify.

Really?!! That would be awesome! The mini-series is far superior to the Lynch movie, at least in terms of storyline sticking to the book. Um, not to sound stupid, but by DE I assume that means Germany?

Usually, but not in this case. There is a real Alan and he did work on DUNE. I spoke to him. I've been in the business and dealing with these people since the late 70's. I'm just trying to give info here. Why is it that there are so many "know it alls" that put down everything prior to their birth date.
It's amazing how many who post here think they have all the answers to films they've only known via home video. Really, try to be a little more open minded and give credit to those who have worked on these projects, know people in positions within the industry, and have accrued experience other than fan-boy "looky I got a slip-case" mentality.

I'm just trying to share info on a film amongst people who appreciate it and have questions.

David Lynch's disassociation with the TV edit of Dune is so well documented that I'm not even going to attempt to filter through the online sources to provide you with links. I recommend you do your research.

Did you speak to the screenwriter "Judas Booth" too?

I'm by no means an expert, but I find this hard to believe... There is a real Alan Smithee and he goes by the same name as the often used DGA approved pseudonym Alan Smithee? Was the Alan you met in the DGA? I couldn't find any Smithee in their member list. I might be more apt to believe you if Lynch's name wasn't missing all together.

SUPERGIRL has fallen under the WARNER collection - unfortunately. This bought up the rights from CANAL after they expired from Anchor Bay. This was done years ago just prior to the release of SUPERMAN RETURNS. WARNER moved quickly to release it on DVD to ride their re-release of the SUPERMAN films.
The offer made by WARNER'S was larger than the one offered by ANCHOR BAY who was considering a re-mastering and HD transfer since the double-disc DVD release did so well. When I first worked on that release I was unable to locate the producer, Ilya Salkind, at the time since he had gone into semi-retirement - which is why I had done an audio commentary with the film's director, Jeannot Swarc. A short time after the commentary was recorded I did hear from the Producer but it was too late to include another commentary, but I did interview him and that appeared on my site. It was then he offered materials and a lot of info which we hope to include in a HD re-release prior to WARNER beating out Anchor Bay. There was also talks in Anchor Bay obtaining the rights to SUPERMAN III due mostly to a re-edit that the Producer had hoped for. He was never happy to the final product and was forced to even use Richard Pryor. We had hoped to do a re-edit and a new main title sequence. The same was true if SUPERGIRL was done again via Anchor Bay - there were plans to produce new footage integrating the destruction of Krypton and how Argo city was saved and thrown into a protective void seen in the film. It was always planned to show this but WARNER'S denied footage from SUPERMAN: THE MOVIE to be used since they broke off from disturbing SUPERGIRL, which eventfully went to TriStar domestically.

It is Germany or more correctly Deutschland hence the DE abbreviation.

Fine, it's been years and the real person didn't and doesn't want this known. I did speak to him, he worked on the film and changed his name to protect himself - his last name is as stated, his first name was Brian. He worked on the film in FX as I stated. Problem here is people can't connect the lines and look outside the box. It comes from easy answers and not much thinking. He was chosen due to his background from working on the film.
He was found out and received a lot of rude calls when he was still in the L.A. office of Universal after the original airing of the film in syndication. It was a very hard time for him especially since his mother had just passed away.

It's amazing really how rude and snobbish not to mention the amount of ego compared to intellect I see here from people who presume to knowing so much. It one of the main reasons I got out of doing what I did due to the lack of gratitude towards the work that should provide entertainment to so many. The amount of rudeness and assumptions founded in lack of experience and based only on "internet poking" is harsh and plain stupid. It is truly a miracle when Special Edition of any release comes out shinning of quality in both PQ and bonus materials. There is such a hurdle to over come in terms of materials available, studio bull-shit, and yes, fans who expect too much for the budget confines and bureaucracy to wade through to get any sort of quality out to the public. I did it for over 30 years, starting with Beta/VHS to Laser, then DVD and finally Blu-ray. I can validate what I've done and what I've worked on. My professional profile is on LinkedIn. I don't take kindly to being snubbed by snots who have achieved nothing more than posts backed by ego. I worked hard and fought a lot for quality releases and restorations. These forums are supposed to be a place to share acquired knowledge to the betterment and further enjoyment of what we all love - not a pole to crucify.

I've learned in life consideration is the key to all, especially respect.

And most probably Germany will use same source since it's also "europe" but we can always hope for a high bitrate 23,976 fps 1080p encode
